For the Diary

Gear purchases

If you need cricket gear – bats, footwear, clothing (other than Club shirts and caps) and training gear hold off for the moment. We will again be establishing an arrangement with Kingsgrove Sports North Parramatta where they open the shop for our exclusive use and offer great discounts for our people.

This will be on either Saturday 31 August or 7th September – the date will be confirmed shortly.

Academy

The Academy will again be operating this season. This has been very popular over the last couple of years and we will again be working with elite 1st Grade and First Class cricketers to provide specialist coaching.

Skills Clinics

We will also be running again the Skills Clinics for our Junior Boys and Girls throughout the season. These Clinics are free and run throughout the season where our Juniors get high quality coaching that is an add-on to the normal Team based coaching.

Country Carnivals

One of the privileges of playing for WPHC is that we are the only Club side in NSW that is invited to participate in Country Carnivals during the New Year period in early January. These are very popular and we see long term friendship develop between players and parents afer what is a wonderful week away in our Country areas. The Carnivals are:

  • U14s – Tamworth JCU Carnival
  • U15s – Walter Taylor Shield (Armidale)
  • U16 Stan Austin Cup (Taree)

Major Award

NSW Cricket Club of the Year

CNSW selected our Club as their nomination for the 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards – here

Our selection as NSW Club of the year is the 2nd time in 3 years we have received this prestigious award.

We are both thrilled and humbled to be CNSW’s nomination for the following major Awards:

  • Distinguished Long Service Award – Barry McDonald
  • Community Club of the Year – WPHCCC

Australian Cricket Club of the Year nomination

Cricket NSW has also advised us recently that we have been selected by the Sydney Sixers Metro Community Cricket team for Community Cricket Club of the Year for the annual A Sport for All Awards held by Cricket Australia. They commented that:

“WPHCCC has been a great example of bringing people of the community together. The Club has proven that hard work and great volunteers can achieve fantastic outcomes for the cricketing community! The Club encompasses a number of attributes that we believe contribute to what is a great cricket Club.”

Cricket Australia announced at the end of May that Quinns Rock Cricket Club in Perth was the worthy winner of this Award but to be the NSW nomination for Australian level recognition was a fantastic acknowledgement of what everyone in our Club has contributed to.

Distinguished Long Service Award

During the 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards, Barry McDonald was awarded a Distinguished Long Service Award. He was one of 20 amazing recipients and photos of the night are on the website Photo Gallery (Miscellaneous photos). What was special on the night is that Barry was invited by the CEO of SportNSW to speak on behalf of all the Recipients. He reason for this honour is that Barry’s CV was seen as the most impressive of an impressive group of people – here

When asked to speak on behalf of the 20 Distinguished Long Service Award recipients, Barry McDonald, who has volunteered with the West Pennant Hills Cricket Club for 34 years, shared this about spending so long in grassroots sport:

“It’s a very simple message – we get more out of doing it than what we put in”
