Mimosa Oval update

Last week we reported that the Ku-ring-gai Council was voting during the week on a proposal that would allow Mimosa Oval (Nth Turramurra) to be converted into a synthetic surface to allow year-round soccer.

At its Ordinary Meeting of Council of 19 November 2019 Council did not resolve a position on whether to proceed or not to proceed with the proposal for a synthetic surface at Rofe Park (Mimosa Sportsground):

“I therefore move:

    1. That Council not proceed with installation of synthetic grass at Mimosa Oval/Rofe Park as:
      1. the Oval is impacted by the Vegetation Category 1 bushfire zone and the proposal presents an unacceptable fire risk
      2. the oval is surrounded by Rofe Park and Sheldon Forest comprising Ku-ring-gai’s only Biodiversity Stewardship Site
      3. the proposal cannot accommodate informal recreational use currently enjoyed by the community.”
