The season starts up again as follows:

• Seniors – Saturday 6^th January 2018 (games start at 12.00 noon)
• In2Cricket (Kanga) – starts up again on Saturday 27 January 2018
• Junior Girls – Saturday 27 January
• Junior Boys – Saturday 27 January

Country Carnivals

Three of our Age Groups are privileged play in the Country Carnivals that start in the 1^st week of January 2018:

• U14s – Tamworth JCU (8^th to 12 January 2018)
• U15s – Armidale (Walter Taylor Shield) – 2^nd to 5^th January
• U16s – Stan Austin Shield (Taree) – 8^th to 11^th January.

Association School Holidays Coaching Clinics

Registrations are now open for the Association Coaches’ Association / Northern District CC’s Junior cricket coaching clinics for boys & girls aged 6 – 15 during the Christmas school holidays.

The Coaches’ Association is a not-for-profit organisation and has scheduled 4 junior clinics between 8 – 18 January 2018.

The venues are: Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara and George Thornton Reserve, WPH (2 clinics at each location).

These popular school holiday clinics have been in operation since 2010 and have a proven track-record in developing the skills of players of all standards, ranging from beginners and club players to experienced representative cricketers. We thoroughly recommend these Clinics and it would be great to see good support from our Club – especially at George Thornton Reserve in our own backyard.

Junior Boys

Country Carnivals

Three of our Age Groups are privileged play in the Country Carnivals played during early January 2018. We are the only Club side in NSW to be given this opportunity to play in these Carnivals:

• U14s – Tamworth JCA (8^th to 12 January 2018)
• U15s – Armidale (Walter Taylor Shield) – 2^nd to 5^th January
• U16s – Stan Austin Shield (Taree) – 8^th to 11^th January.

U14s Tamworth JCA Carnival

We played against Teams from: Tamworth; Barbarians; Manly, Armidale and Nambucca / Bellingen. Match results were:

At a glance:

• We finished 5^th out of 6 Representative Teams
• Luchith Thenuwara won the Bowler of the Tournament with 6 wickets at 9.0.

Round 1

WPHC 55 lost to Manly 7/253 – playing against a strong Manly Team our top scorer was Amardeep Gill with 20. For our bowlers, Danielle Chivers was the best with 2/16. Also taking wickets were: James Stuart-Gray 1/11, Luchith Thenuwara 1/22, Lachlan Edwards 1/31 and Arya Tyagi 1/33.

Round 2

WPHC 4/86 lost to Armidale 4/120 – the first of our T20s saw us go down to a strong Armidale side. Batting first, Armidale got a good score with our best bowlers: Aryan Tyagi 2/32. One wicket was taken by Hiresh De Silva and James Stuart-Gray. We couldn’t match them in the batting with Ratul Kumbam top scoring with 24.

Round 3

WPHC 3/98 defeated Barbarians 9/89 – the second of our T20s with a powerful win. Bowling first we rolled them for 89 with Luchith Thenuwara starring with 5/11 off his 4 overs. James Hutchinson also did well with 2/8.

Round 4

WPHC 67 lost to Nambucca/Bellingen 3/68 – winning the toss and batting first we struggled to 67 in 35 overs. Best for us was Aryan Tyagi who top scored with 26. In the bowling three players took a wicket – Lily Campbell 1/13; James Hutchinson 1/8 and Danielle Chivers 1/15 but our score was run down in 17 overs.

Round 5

WPHC 7/137 lost to Tamworth 3/138 – after winning the toss we batted first and put on 137 in our 50 overs against the 1^st placed local Team. At one stage we were 4/14 and things were looking grim until a 108 run 5^th wicket partnership between Amardeep Gill (52) and James Stuart-Gray (31) got us to a competitive total.

Our turn to bowl and Tamworth scored the runs in 38 overs with Amardeep Gill (2/15) and Luchith Thenuwara 1/19. Luchith also won the bowler of the Carnival with his 6 wickets for 9 runs – a great performance.

U16s Stan Austin Carnival (Taree)

Teams in the Carnival are: Penrith; Mid North Coast; Far North Coast; Tamworth; Roseville, Manly; Hunter Valley.

At a glance:

• We finished 4^th after coming 7^th in Tamworth (U14s) and 6^th in Armidale (U15s)
• Our Boys won the Spirit of Cricket Award
• Zac Morris won the Batsman of the Carnival with 125 runs at 31.25.

A great effort boys.

Detailed results are summarised:

Round 1

WPHC 7/191 defeated Roseville 116 – a big win by the boys with Dylan Bish top scoring with 64*. Good performances also from Zac Morris (26) and Nick Sparkes (22). In the bowling, wickets were well spread with Areeb Rashid the best with 3/27. Good performances also by Dylan Bish (2/7), Ed Corby (2/14), Xander Vink (1/2), Alex Silnis (1/12).

Round 2

WPHC 70 lost to Hunter Valley 168 – winning the toss and bowling first at Johnny Martin Oval we kept Valley to a gettable target of 168 in 46 overs. Ed Corby was our most successful bowler with 3/16 (5 overs) with Alex Silnis taking 2/22. One wicket was taken by each of: Tom Dickinson, Dylan Bish, Nick Sparkes and Connor Hindmarsh. In the batting we struggled on the slow outfield and got to 70 in 42 overs with Riley Paton top scoring with 21.

Round 3

WPHC 124 tied with Manly 124 – a great game that puts us in the top 4. Batting first we got a competitive but below par score in 41 overs. Zac Morris was outstanding to top score with 48. We had to bowl and field well and we did. Alex Silins with 3/12 (10 overs) was superb, Tom Dickinson with 2/23 was also dominant. Other bowlers to take wickets were: Connor Hindmarsh 1/16, Areeb Rashid 1/22 and Ed Corby 2/25. We bowled Manly out in 44 overs to share the points in an exciting game.

Play-off for 3rd 4th

WPHC 82 lost to Tamworth 2/82 – a 40 over game against 3rd place Tamworth was always going to be difficult. We won the toss and batted, but never got going with wickets falling at regular intervals. Zac Morris backed up his 48 from round 3 with a top score of 50 – 70% of the Team total.

Tamworth lost 2 wickets in the chase with Areeb Rashid the best of the bowlers with 1/11 off 5 and Ed Corby 1/11 off 3. Xander Vink took a great catch at mid off.

After finishing 7th in Tamworth and 6th in Armidale, our 4th position at Taree was an excellent result for a Club team.

In addition our Club was presented with the most converted “Spirit of Cricket Award” living up to our reputation as the most friendly, entertaining and appreciative Team going around.

 U15s Walter Taylor Shield (Armidale)

We played Teams from: Armidale (1st and 2nd X1), Ballina, Tamworth, Lismore, Penrith and Hunter Valley. Included in this was a Day / Night game under lights.

We ended up playing 4 games – losing 3 to Rep sides and getting a Tie in the final game.

Skills sessions

Our Skills training sessions are now in recess and starts up again on 5 February 2018.

These are free sessions with our talented high performance Coaches providing high quality skills based training.

Grand Finals – Spring Season

Congratulations to our Grand Finalists:

The U15s played off for 5^th / 6^th position in their Comp.

Summer Competition Registrations

The Spring season is now over. The Summer Season for the T20 Blast and Sixers Competitions starts-up again at the end of January and runs until mid-March.

U13 Hills

WPHC 4/63 drew with Parramatta – match Report to follow but wet weather caused a draw in this game. With Parramatta finishing higher in the Comp we came Runner-up for the Spring Comp.

U15 Spring Comp

WPHC 2/106 drew with Mercy Catholic College – another rain affected Final and with Mercy taking out the Minor Premiership the Girls finished as Runner-up. This was a disappointing outcome to a match that we had pretty much in control of.

U17 Spring Comp

WPHC Vs Castle Hill Thunder 3/95 – a shame the game was washed out as we had a real show after dismissing the powerful top order of Castle Hill.

Seniors

Round 8, Highlights

Best performances from the Round 9, 1-Dayer came from:

• Andy Meikle (A1) scored his 1,000^th career runs
• Andrew Morris (B2) scored 94 in the 1-dayer against our Blue side
• Michael Robertson (A2) scored 84 Vs our Blues.

• Just take a photo of anything to do with our Club – Kanga, Girls, Boys and Seniors
• The photo can be of our players batting, bowling or fielding

Pink Stumps day

One for the diaries. Our Annual Pink Stumps Day, run by our U9s, is fast approaching:

 

• When:              Saturday 10 March 2018
• Time:               9.00 am to 1.00 pm
• Where:             Edward Bennett Oval (to be confirmed)

 

The day is a Fund-raiser double-header played between our U9s. Activities are:

1. Four games of 10 : 10 overs each (can reduce to 8 overs each if necessary) – Teams will play against each other and the kids are expected to be in their cricket whites;
2. Pink caps, sausage sizzle and a can of soft drink to be sold to each member of the team at $12.50 each
3. Sale of cup cakes, brownies etc to be sold at $2.00 per piece;
4. Pink collection boxes to be placed for donations on the day.
