Blowfly Cricket
Young people with a disability in our District now have a wonderful cricket opportunity to participate in the acclaimed Blowfly Cricket program.
The WPHCCC Chapter of Blowfly Cricket fits under the Blowfly organisation run by Mark Rushton that is based at James Park, Hornsby. The Home Facebook page is here
Blowfly Cricket gives young people with autism, special needs &/or disabilities the chance to play organised sport. It also gives families the chance to be involved and enjoy seeing their children having fun and just enjoying life. The following link provides a great insight into Blowfly Cricket – here
The following quote by Deborah Day encapsulates what Blowfly Cricket is all about:
“Encourage, lift and strengthen one another. For the positive energy spread to one will be felt by us all. For we are connected, one and all.”
The Blowfly Mission Statement is:
- Providing the opportunity for each participant to learn and develop the skills associated with the game of cricket in a constructive and positive setting
- Establishing an environment for each family member to enjoy their involvement in the game, including coaching, umpiring, administration and support
- Encouraging all participants to realise their own potential in, and enjoyment of, cricket
- Enabling carers, parents and siblings the opportunity to share interest in the game and interacting with other participating families; and
- Fostering relationships with mainstream and adult cricket, in order for players with disabilities to be provided with clearly defined pathways to National and International representation in cricket, for players as the sport develops.
