Perfect Start to the Summer Season with a Win in the First T20 Game against Glenorie

It was a pleasant day with good weather and a well-maintained ground. The team was charged up and ready to kick-start their championship journey. Unfortunately, the skipper lost the toss and we were invited to bowl first.

Amit and Mustafa (Mufi) opened the bowling for West Penno with some quality swing bowling, tying down Glenorie’s openers and restricting the flow of runs. Mufi drew first blood in the 4^th over, sending the hard-hitting opener back to the dugout. Amit bowled probing lines but was unlucky not to get a wicket.

The second wicket fell soon after, before the batsman could open his account, thanks to Hari’s lightning-fast stumping off Saurabh.

This brought Glenorie’s Klassen to the crease. He consolidated the innings with the other opener, attacking with some big hits and slowly pushing the scoring rate above 7 runs per over. Glenorie’s party lasted for 10 overs before the big man fell after scoring a quick-fire 43, thanks to an amazing diving catch by Blake off a dipping yorker from Brij. The other opener retired after scoring 29 runs.

Glenorie kept the scoreboard ticking but couldn’t maintain the same strike rate and ended up with 103 runs at the end of 20 overs, losing another wicket on the last ball of their innings to Mufi.

Run Chase: Lakshya, the run machine, and Rahul started cautiously, adding runs at a decent pace thanks to some powerful shots and excellent running between the wickets. A great throw from the outfield ended Rahul’s well-made innings of 34 in the 16^th over, with 32 runs needed from 24 balls.

Blake joined Lakshya, who completed his first fifty of the season in style by dismantling Glenorie’s bowling. In the 19^th over, they scored 13 runs, leaving just 7 runs to win in the last over. Blake finished the game with a massive six off the penultimate ball of the innings.

There were a lot of positives from today’s game.

Mufi was the standout bowler, Blake (the Mid-on Wall) was amazing in the field, and Rahul batted really well, looking in great touch. Last but not least, Lakshay continued from where he left off last season and carried his bat through the innings with 51 not out, featuring some splendid cover drives, straight drives, and powerful lofted shots.

WPHC White (Indranil) Vs Hornsby @ Howson Ave

There’s no better feeling than the first Saturday of cricket for the year and as the WPHCCC White team rocked up to Howson Park ready to go for season 24/25 and to play Hornsby District

Batting first, Aden and skipper Indranil got off to a good start. Boundaries a plenty from the opening duo as the score raced 0-42 within the first six overs before the skipper was caught, out for 22.

Ben D was the next man in and his calls were so loud, I think surrounding suburbs Wahroonga and Warrawee would’ve heard him scream yes, no, waiting.

Aden (16) and No.4 Cam (11) departed in the following overs which saw the beginning of the Ollie show.

Shots all over the ground from Ollie saw him steer the innings in a great direction. Support from Ben D (15), Will (18) and Dan (24) saw the score reach 6/184 after our 20 overs. Ollie’s 65 was the standout as he punished the Hornsby bowlers; in an innings that saw multiple fielders having to climb the fence to find the red rock and a change in balls after a six hit into the bush. We reckon that ball still hasn’t stopped moving.

Setting out to defend 184, the bowling was opened by Ben W and Paul Vink, both unfortunate not to pick up a wicket as the Hornsby batsmen frustrated us all. Inam would pick up the first three wickets with good catches from Cam and Aden behind the stumps. Inam’s second wicket was in particular amazing. A caught and bowled by Inam that saw our man take a one handed screamer.

Hornsby were no match however as tight bowling from Reyhan and Dan through the middle allowed Ben W (who grabbed a wicket, top catch from Ollie in the deep) and Paul to grab Wphccc the W, winning by 42 runs.

Special mention to Cam Bliss who nailed a throw from 25 metres to bowler Dan to grab a run out.

Good start for the team who now go to Les Shore 2 next week to play Glenorie!

WPHC 8/128 lost to Glenorie 7/128

White batted first and scored 8/128 in our 20 overs. Mahesh Shinde (33) and Mahesh Kadagarchi (27) being our top scorers.  Glenorie replied with 7/128 from their 20 overs. Mahesh Shinde 2/18 and Bala Raghuramam 2/21 our best with the ball.

We batted first in the super-over and scored 17 however Glenorie scored 18 from their first 5 balls. As the saying goes “close but no cigar”.
