WPHC Blue (Hiresh) Vs Castle Hill @ Caddies Creek
WPHC 4/117 defeated Castle Hill 7/88
Our skipper lost the toss again (2 for 2—maybe it’s time to practice those coin flips), and Castle Hill sent us in to bat, clearly hoping to bowl us out cheaply and grab their second win. Little did they know, destiny (no, not our new team name) had other plans.
Eamon stepped up to open with Rahul in Lakshay’s absence. The start was cautious, with runs trickling in at a steady pace. Then, Eamon decided to cut loose, slapping Castle Hill’s bowlers around with a flurry of boundaries. He eventually departed in the 8th over after scoring a solid 33. Fun fact: his last six scoring shots? All boundaries!
Blake joined Rahul to keep the bowlers at bay. Rahul retired in the 12th over with the team score at 56, giving the rest of the squad a chance. Enter Chetan, who went absolutely ballistic, hammering a quick 28, including two towering sixes. Saurabh chipped in with a cheeky 14, running like a madman with Blake before getting out on the last ball.
We set Castle Hill a target of 118 from 20 overs.
Amit and Mufi opened the bowling for West Penno. Castle Hill’s openers came out swinging, trying to take full advantage of the field restrictions.
They managed 33 runs in the first five overs. But the tables turned over the next seven overs, as they only scraped together 16 runs and lost 3 wickets in the process.
The pressure was so intense that it led to some questionable umpiring decisions (cough a clear run-out from Saurabh’s direct hit cough). But hey, we’re not bitter.
Castle Hill planned to go big after the 12th over, but then Hari—The Bowler—stepped up and snapped two wickets in three overs, leaving Castle Hill scratching their heads. Mufi claimed one more in his second spell, and with some lightning-quick fielding and top-notch keeping, we nabbed one more wicket, completely killing Castle Hill’s hopes of a comeback.
In the end, Castle Hill could only limp to 88 from their 20 overs.
The team is really coming together, and you can see it in the energy on the field. The results? Just a by-product.
Shoutout to Saurabh and Hari for their standout bowling, and to Eamon and Chetan for bringing the firepower with the bat.
