Sports Club Christmas Tree decorating competition

The Sports Club are again running their Christmas tree decorating competition. We won the popular vote by Sports Club Members last year so let’s give 2024 another run.

How this works

The voting is open to everyone who comes to the Sports Club and buys drinks at the bar – including soft drinks.

All you need to do is to:

  • Buy any drink at the bar and you get a receipt
  • Put the receipt in the voting box that is beside the Christmas tree and it is that easy
  • Our tree is the Beach Cricket decorated tree.

If we are lucky enough to win again then the winner get $500.

So….all West Penno Cricket Club members come along to the Club after games and vote often.

Sports Club approach to cricket nets

The Sports Club AGM on Monday (25/11) approved Development plans that involves a re-designation of the cricket nets and tennis courts land area as being ‘non-core’.

This allows the Sports Club to proceed with the investigation of alternative income producing land use. They explained that the days of reliance on poker machine revenue is rapidly coming to an end (e.g.; cashless poker machines, political & media pressure) and they need to diversify their income streams. The time frame is likely to take years but the process can now start.

Our position is that as we don’t own the land and use it as guests of the Sports Club and there is more upside working collaboratively as a partner with the Sports Club to source alternative practice facilities.

The speakers at the AGM confirmed that they will work with our Club to make sure that we are looked after as this proceeds.
