Welcome to 2023 and the run-in to the Semi Finals and Finals. Games start-up again as follows:

  • Seniors – Saturday 7th January 2023
  • Blowfly Cricket – Friday 27th January
  • Junior Blasters – Saturday 28th January
  • Juniors:
    • Mixed – Saturday 28th January
    • Girls – Saturday 28th January

Details of when Semi’s and Finals are played is covered in an update for each section below.

Sports Inclusion Australia opportunity

The NSW Intellectual Disability (ID) are short a couple of players who are scheduled to play in a National tournament at Brisbane in February, 2023.

The eligibility qualification is to be 15 years and over and to be registered / eligible to be registered as an athlete with Sports Inclusion Australia under their guidelines for Intellectual disability and generally play cricket at Club level.

Kenthurst Banksia’s UK Tour 2023

The Banksia’s are again organising a tour of the UK to coincide with the upcoming Ashes series. The Tour has been organised for the last 20+ years and is open to members from all Clubs. Broad details are;

  • When: 3rd July to 18th July 2023
  • Cost: $4,350.00
  • What this covers: 3-star accommodation; transport from major cities and matches; 4 to 5 games against English Clubs; Lord’s Tour; use of the Lord’s nets and historical London Pub walk.

Indian Cricket Gala Day

CNSW is running a ‘Indian Cricket Gala Day’ at Cricket Central. Details are:

  • When:              Monday 16 January 2023
  • Where:             Cricket Central (161 Silverwater Rd, Sydney Olympic Park)
  • Time:               5.00 pm to 7.00 pm

The Gala Day offers; Cricket Blast sessions; Face painting; Site tour & Coaching Masterclass plus learn to get involved in Sydney Cricket.

School Holiday Programs

These holidays Cricket NSW will be running two Holiday Programs at Mark Taylor Oval with an aim to drive Girl’s registrations in Term 1 Blast programs.

These will complement the Coaches Association clinics and will be focused on giving Girls an entry level option to try cricket with their friends in the holidays.

Day 2 will be open to boys and girls but we would still love to see as many girls attend as possible! Details of each day are below:

Program 1 – Girls Only:

  • Date: Monday 9th January 2023
  • Time: 9-3pm
  • Location: Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara
  • Cost: Only $25 with the use of voucher code 77202D88
  • This program will be subsidised by Cricket Australia and CommBank to make it more accessible to girls and their friends to attend.

Program 2 – Mixed:

  • Date: Tuesday 10th January
  • Time: 9-3pm
  • Location: Mark Taylor Oval
  • Cost: $49
  • Girls and boys can attend this program – we would love to see brothers and sisters come along together!

Indoor Cricket Holiday competition

CNSW is hosting an indoor cricket competition this January holidays called the ‘Hornsby PCYC Holiday Indoor Blast’!

This indoor competition will take place in the January school holidays and is to support our 10, 11 and 12 year old’s over the break.

Details:

  • Where – Indoor courts at the Hornsby PCYC at Waitara.
  • When – Thursday 12 January, Monday 16 January, Thursday 19 January and Monday 23 January 20
  • Game times – either 3:30pm or 4:30pm.
  • Competition set up – a round-robin style competition over four weekday afternoons.
  • Game structure – 60-minute Master Blast style games
  • Team structure:
  • 6 x mixed gender teams with eight players per team.
  • 2 x girl only teams with eight players per team.

Other important information about the competition

  • If your child wants to play in a team with their best friends from school, and their cousin and their neighbour, then this is the competition for them. The team can even nominate a team name!
  • A player does not need to be involved in a cricket club/association affiliated to the HK&HDCA.
  • A player can register as a single, pair or any group number. Cricket NSW will allocate them to a team to make up eight players.
  • This competition is being run using the Cricket NSW internal competition administration team who will complete all administrative duties including registrations, PlayHQ, draws, scoring, tables, etc.

Women’s Social Smash – starting soon

Great news about the highly successful Women’s Social Cricket Smash starting up again in the New Year. Details are:

  • When:                    Wednesday 1 February 2023
  • Where:                   Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara
  • Time:                      6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
  • Cost:                      $70 for 7 weeks

What is the Social Smash

For those new to this concept it is as much about having a game of cricket with other women in a safe and non-judgemental environment as it is about laying out a blanket on the ground after the game and sharing a glass of wine and nibbles with friends and new found friends without having to rush home.

 Access to PlayHQ stats

A short-term work-around has been found to allow access to Player stats for players from our Club.

To access Team based stats for Teams playing for West Penno you can access these through:

  • MyCricket App > Player Stats > Select Team.

Once into the Team stats, just click on to each Player to see individual player performances for this season. Unfortunately, career stats are not yet linked but will be in the New Year.

Outcomes of the latest Council meeting (6 December)

  • Clubs focussing on marketing to the Girls Master Blasters & Stage 1 age groups (Up to U12) before July 1 2023 Season Registrations open, will ensure we have an All Girls Competition for 2023/24 Season
  • SCC currently reviewing grades with any changes to be made at the completion of Rd 7. Any teams regraded will carry their existing points to the new grade
  • A grade and A2 grade split to be determined at the completion of Rd 9 as agreed at the beginning of the season. The intention is 6 A grade and 4 for A Reserve
  • All matches will be unlocked from Monday 12/12 until Tuesday 20/12 for details to be updated. Currently only approximately 50% of matches have had all details entered. All clubs will receive a spreadsheet on Monday 12/12 with matches highlighted that require completion. Any details not completed by the 20/12 may incur penalties.

Junior Cricket Clinics

The Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) has scheduled three cricket clinics in the January 2023 school holidays.

  • Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara – Wed 11 & Thurs. 12 January, 2023
  • Greenway 2 Oval, Cherrybrook – Mon 16 & Tues. 17 January
  • Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara – Tues 24 & Wed. 25 January

During the past 12 years, HKHDCCA has conducted 67 successful school holiday junior cricket clinics.

These clinics are designed for boys and girls aged from 6 – 14 years and they cater for all standards from beginners to representative level players.

  • Hours – 8.30am – 2.00pm each day.

Personal achievements

Another Round and more outstanding personal achievements. Here goes:

  • Arun Chaudhuri (D1 Blue) scored 100 – our 510th century
  • Ryan ‘Birdcage’ Loveridge belted 101* – our 511th To make it even worse for those who came back to the Club he got a 4fa
  • Word is that James Makin (A1) had a bowl. Far from the days of being a tearaway who has taken 370 wickets he now bowls spin. While no wickets, the last time he bowled was way back in 2017/18.
