Anecdotes – Round 4 (Day 2), 2022-23 Season

What West Penno players do outside cricket

Last week we commented that over 40 players were unavailable for selection this Round! When you think about it,  this is as many players as many Clubs across NSW have registered players. We survived due mainly to the amazing efforts of our Seniors Director (James) plus our Captains plus our wonderful Juniors. So where were most of our players? At the India Vs Pakistan blockbuster at the MCG on Saturday.

Space Cadet

First – our latest theme music by David Bowie: Space Oddity

To be 3 games into the main season and to get 3 Space Cadets is something special but we have done it and congratulations to our winners so far: Connor Mayoh (D1 Red) and Chetan Chandrasekhar (C3 Red). This week we have a regular re-join this illustrious group.

Ryan ‘Birdcage’ Loveridge, has an unchallenged nomination for Zac Turner in his B1 Red Team:

Speaking of poor feats, Zac “on time” Turner once again forgot his whites. Ross keeps stats on this and he has now become the all-time leading white’s forgetter. We also had the worst warm up of all time.”

At last count this is now up to 3 times but it could actually be higher if these major breaches have not been previously reported.

Big results

Tracking outstanding results each week is a bit difficult as PlayHQ continues to have integration issues with MyCricket. But there are a few huge individual performances that have set personal records – all bowlers so far. How about this for starters:

  • Craig Hutchinson (B2) took the amazing figures of 6/7 last weekend. Hutchy already has over 200 wickets and this beat his previous best of 6/33 back in 2010/11. This is the most miserly bowling return since Tim Scoular (A2) took 7/3 way back in October 2014
  • Parin Pillamarri (D1 Red) – is motoring towards his 100 career wickets and took 4/8 off 17 overs last weekend. This also beat his previous best of 4/10 last season.

Hutchy went on to take another 4 wickets in the 2nd 1nnings and finished with 10/51. This is just the 53rd time in our history that a player has taken 10 wickets in a game with the last occurrence by Ishaan Singh who too 11/58 in C3 @ Campbell Park on 26 November 2016.

What is also interesting is that while we have scored 502 tons in our history so far, after 4 Rounds, there have been Nil tons scored. This is the slowest start to the season for our batters in a long time.
