B1 Grade
WPHC 213 Vs Kissing Point 2/17 – we started the day losing the toss on a quick Greenway outfield…..and Kissing Point chose to bowl. Our happiness quickly turned to sadness when we were struggling at 7/108 after 42 overs. Luckily, Fabs came in and saved us with a great knock of 56, hitting boundaries left, right and centre. Bottom order also played very well with Jedwards (30) and Michael Fester McGregor (25) putting on a solid partnership to close our innings at 213 after 62 overs.
We were eager to bowl at them and put the pressure on early, with Cam McBrien (2/5 off 5) ripping through the opposition and Jedwards keeping the batsmen wary at the other end – final score for Kissing Point was 2/17 – looks great for next week!
B2 Grade
WPHC 0/11 Vs Glenorie District 179 – we turned up to Les Shore No2 oval which was in pretty good condition considering the overnight rain. The outfield was dry but the pitch was a bit damp. Glenorie won the toss and chose to bat. Immediately our opening bowlers Ben O’Meara and Peter Flook had the ball hooping around in the humid conditions. Both bowled brilliantly but without luck.
The change of bowlers brought the breakthrough with Rick Turner snaring a caught and bowled with a slower ball. At drinks Glenorie were 1/54. We pressed on in the second session with great bowling by Dinuka Jayasuriya, Ben Meikle and Anushka De Silva. We also had a direct hit run out from Zac Turner to remove the Glenorie Captain who was looking dangerous.
We had Glenorie 4/105 at tea and were on top. After Tea the game became the Chris Williamson show as he cleaned up the Glenorie tail along with good bowling support from Ravin Wijesuriya. Glenorie were all out for 179 off 64.4 overs. Best of the bowlers Chris Williamson 5/19, Dinuka Jayasuriya 2/22, Rick Turner 1/34 and Ravin Wijesuriya 1/13.
In reply we ended up 0/11 from a handful of overs left in the days play. We are in a good position in this one and a disciplined batting display next week should see us bring home a win.
C1 Grade
WPHC Vs Mt Colah – a wet Mt Ku-ring-gai was unplayable today so we play a 1-dayer next weekend.
C2 Grade
WPHC Blue 260 Vs Beecroft – it was good to finally win a toss and an important one at that, one which allowed us to bat first in wet and ordinary conditions. Gopy Parathan (43) and Raghu Chary got us off to a flying start with an opening partnership of 76 off 15 overs. Around this time Raghu strained a groin muscle which hindered his running between wickets, however he maintained his concentration and accumulated runs along with some scintillating boundaries and received good support from a patient Divyan Shankar (18) to add another 74 run partnership.
Further good support from Max Harkin (12) saw Raghu post his ton. A well deserved achievement as he has shown us his class in the previous two rounds and was duly rewarded for being the mainstay of our innings today.
Looking to push the scoring along after 5pm, Raghu finally fell for a superb 118 (15×4), our 451st ton. Valuable late runs were added by Gautam Ayyar (21) and Matt Rashleigh (11*) to see us end the day all out in the last over for 260. With a strong bowling attack, this is a pleasing position to be in and we look forward to nailing a win next week.
WPHC Red 174 Vs Kissing Point 0/22 – we won the toss and elected to bat on a wet Mimosa Oval. Our innings didn’t start well, losing both openers in the first over. Andrew Morris (32) looked in great touch, playing shots to all parts of the ground.
We then lost another 3 quick wickets and found ourselves at 5/53 after 15 overs. Sandeep Darapuneni (28) and Matt Digby (26) built a great partnership. Showing patience and maturity in a tough situation. The pair put on a 60 run partnership to drag our score over 100.
Alex Chidgey continued his good form with the bat, making an important 31*. Finishing all out for 174 thanks to a great effort from our middle order, has given us a total we can defend. We look forward to the test next week.
C3 Grade
WPHC 165 Vs Kissing Point 3/81 – late start of the game today due to rain, we had to make sure the pitch had to be dried. We won the toss and started batting, our opening pair were able to see off the seamers. Peter Lees, playing week one from C2 batted at number 3 and made 33 runs and stayed there for a long time.
With Indranil’s wicket Tarun Lath who made 42 played a Captains innings. After losing Peter at 71/3, Tarun and Sreeni Pillamarri played a 52 runs partnership stand, Sreeni was out when score was 123 and there on rest of the team were all out for 165. Kissing Point started batting in the last hour of the day, made 38/1. Next week going to be a busy day at work for all the boys.

WPHC Vs Berowra – details and report to follow
D2 Grade
WPHC 2/54 Vs Castle Hill RSL 162 – Castle Hill hit 162 runs which also included 43 sundries made up of 17 wides, 12 no-balls & 14 leg byes. This is of some concern to us. Their highest scorer hit 50 and the next highest was 23 and then 14. The rest had scores of less than 10.
Our best bowler was Thiru Pukazhenthi who took 4 wickets for 15 runs off 5 overs. Our newest player Ben Kinchington took 2 for 20 off 8 overs and Mike Kinchington took 1 for 8 off 5 overs. Dinal Silva also took 1 for 12 off 6 overs. Michael Clipsham took 1 wicket for 15 off 2 overs and Siby Joseph achieved 1 for 37 off 9 overs. It took 43 overs to bowl Castle Hill out.
We then went in to bat and played another 26 overs to be 2 for 54 at the end of play. Another 109 runs is required to win this match with 8 wickets remaining.
T/20 Finalists – Sunday 23rd October 2016
4th Grade (C2 Red / C3 / D1)
WPHC Blue 3/108 lost to Kissing Point 8/109 – the boys were trying to win back to back Premierships and we started well by winning the toss and batting first. We batted first and got off to a solid start. Ian Patto Paterson (36) and Joel Herzog (44) got us away to be only 1 down after 11 overs. Joel chanced his luck and was dominant with anything either short of full. Patto batted through the innings and was run-out in the last over going for a quick run. Point bowled well – bowling good lines and making it tough to score freely without risk. We finished with a solid target but were probably around 20 runs short of par score on the fast Auluba Oval.
In the bowling we had to do everything right and we came so close – going down to the last 3 balls in the game. Amith Sen was our best bowler with 3/17 with one each to Stu Fiedler (1/12) and Alex Chidgey (1/15). The final over was a beauty with Sreeni taking a great running catch at cover. The winning runs were hit from another catch opportunity that would have been the catch of the year had it been taken. We lost this one but it was a fitting Final played in good spirit and going down to the wire.
5th Grade (C2 / C3/ D1 / D2)
WPHC Red 4/157 defeated St Ives 57 – the Reds lost the toss and were generously sent into bat at Aulubua Oval. 16 runs off the 1st over set the tone for the Innings. Dylan Bish (13) showed lovely timing but was 1st to go falling LBW. An opening stand of 41 off 5overs.
Enter Brent Larkham (66*), a couple of sighters and then found a way to smash the ball to all parts of the ground. Yet somehow he managed to not get bat on ball for 6 balls in a row to the slowest of bowlers. The 2nd wicket partnership of 81 with Andrew Morris (63) set the foundation for a very defendable total.
St Ives were contained early, the 1st wicket came in the 4th over with only 10 runs on the Board. Paul Vink (0/9 off 3) and Roshan Withange (2/19 off 3), put the early pressure on. After St Ives had just taken 18 off 8 balls, Enter Ian (You don’t need to bowl me this game ) Williams (3/8 all bowled off 2). Ian’s 1st ball could only be described as a slow straight ball that said hit me.
Unfortunately for the St Ives batsman he didn’t. Neither did the next two that followed. A direct Run Out from Brent and a scorching catch to Perry Waldron off Cameron Bish (1/15 off 2) had St Ives even deeper in trouble.
Siby Joseph (1/0 off 1) and Ben Waldron (0/4 off 2) finished off with tight bowling. The end came in the 13th over with a final Run Out to Dylan Bish.
Another great team effort and the end of a 4 game campaign that was a lot of fun and had its shares of laughs.
It was unfortunate that Captain Steve Quanborough was unable to play in this game, I’m sure he’s hurting a little bit somewhere, but the Trophy is yours. WPHCCC D Grade 20/20 Champions 3 years out of the last 4 years.
