U14 Tamworth Carnival

A hugely successful Carnival for our U14s was held in Tamworth last week, both on and off the field. On the field the boys won 4 out of 5 games to finish in 3rd place out of 8 teams…..ahead of teams from Tamworth, Armidale, Manly, Nambucca/Bellingen and Lismore. Their only loss all week was in the semi-final against Hawkesbury. A great result for a Club side playing against district representative teams.

Even more important though was the loads of fun that the boys had off the field. Prior to the week not all boys knew each other well, but that didn’t take long. The pool was a huge hit. The parent group was also exceptional with a huge amount of laughs and willingness to chip in wherever needed.

To quote Rob Hanich (Coach):

“…even more important than how the boys performed on the cricket field, is the way they bonded as a unit and became great mates and had loads of fun. I am sure there were times when they could have skipped the cricket and just headed straight to the pool. The boys didn’t all know each other before this week, but it didn’t take long. There were no ego’s, no friction, just great fun. I hope they remember this trip for a long time!”

Details are:

Game 1 – win

A great win against Armidale. We batted first on the Riverside 5 turf ground and scored an imposing 8/213 in 50 overs. Jude Boyle (41*), Aidan Jackson (40) and Oliver Linschoten with 27 top scored. In a thriller that went down to the last over Armidale finished with 7/205. Wickets were spread with Oliver being the best with 2/25 off 5.

Game 2 – win

Another great win, this time against the Peel River Renegades. Bowling first we kept Peel River to 7/144 off their 50 overs at Riverside 1 turf Oval. Aidan Jackson took 3/15 and Joseph Calusic 2/15 with the remaining wickets spread. In the batting we finished at 5/146 in 45 overs with Luc White 57* and Alistair Fullerton 50* putting on 94 for the 2nd wicket to get us across the line. Game 3 – win

Three from 3 and the only undefeated Team in the Competition. Bowling first we restricted Lismore to 140 in 46 overs. Kieran Jackson had the amazing figures of 3/3 off 7 overs with the remaining wickets spread. Our turn to bat and we got there in 46 overs and 6 wickets down. Well done to Oliver Linschoten who top scored with 39* and Jude Boyle (26*). Good contributions also from Louis Madison-Hanlon (22) and Luca Vasic 22. The unbeaten 7th wicket partnership between Oliver and Jude of 60 runs saw us through – www.northerndailyleader.com.au/story/4398573/tamworth-blues-bounce-back-on-day-three-of-u14-carnival/?cs=160

Game 4 (Semi Final) – loss

Going into the Semi as the only undefeated Team we played Hawkesbury DCA. We bowled well to keep them to 7/155 off their 50 overs. Kieran Jackson and Ben Dunkerley were our best, each with 2/16. We struggled with the batting and were dismissed for 52 in 30 overs. Jude Boyle was the only player to get double figures with 11.

Game 5 (Plate Final) – win

Batting first we scored 6/197 against the home side Armidale in 40 overs. Aidan Jackson scored a superb run-a-ball ton to be 100* and Joseph Calusic 31. We then kept Armidale to 8/169 in their 40 overs. Louis Madison-Hanlon with 4/29 at the death with batters swinging was outstanding – www.northerndailyleader.com.au/story/4403197/true-blue-victory/?cs=160 . So 4 wins from 5 games against Regional Rep sides and with a lot of fun along the way has made this a tremendous Carnival – well done.
