A helping hand

With the departure of some key people from our Leadership Team an important gap that needs to be filled is our Yearbook co-ordinator.

All the input is provided by our Directors of Blowfly, Junior Blasters, Juniors Mixed, Girls and Seniors. The role we need filled is to consolidate the info and work with the printers to get the final copy. To quote Buzz Burrows, our Juniors Director:

“…the process is straightforward and takes a dedicated soul to put in some time to work with the printer, who I believe are happy to walk the new incumbent through step by step.”

If you would like an opportunity of giving back to our Club and making a difference your contribution would be much appreciated.

If interested then please contact Steve Burrows direct on Juniors email or 0478 965 255.

Cricket Australia awards

Great news during the week that CNSW has nominated West Penno for the Cricket Australia ‘Women & Girls initiative of the Year’. This is one of the most prestigious annual national awards within Australia and to even be nominated is an amazing achievement. We won it last season so the opportunity to go back to back is special.

The nomination is based on the implementation of our new playing & volunteer uniforms that have been received amazingly well by our players and opposition players.

Girls

Girls Festival of cricket

The Girls Festival of cricket was run on Saturday (11 February). This is an amazing initiative, run by our Girls Division (Grant & Suz), who runs a Carnival of cricket over next Saturday and combines this with a Pink Stumps initiative.

We hosted T20 games at Greenway Park and John Purchase Ovals all day Saturday and use this to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

The day looked like:

  • 10:30 – Junior Stage 1 game at John Purchase
  • 1:00 – Senior Stage 1 game at John Purchase
  • Senior Stage 3 game at Greenway Oval
    • 3:30 – Stage 2 game – Darlington – at John Purchase
    • Stage 2 game – Thomas – at Greenway oval

At approx 6:00pm after games, we’d love all teams to come to Greenway Oval to join us for BBQ and Spirit of Cricket / Greenway Cup Awards. Sausages and drinks will be available for a GOLD coin donation.

Women’s Social Cricket – underway

Great news about the highly successful Women’s Social Cricket Smash started last Wednesday (1 February) and continues to 15 March. Details are:

  • Where:                   Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara
  • Time:                      6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
  • Cost:                      $70 for 7 weeks

It is never too late to join so if you want to form a Team or just turn up as a single player – everything can be arranged.

What is the Social Smash

For those new to this concept it is as much about having a game of cricket with other women in a safe and non-judgemental environment as it is about laying out a blanket on the ground after the game and sharing a glass of wine and nibbles with friends and new found friends without having to rush home.
