Our latest Australian Representative
Naden Cooray, a West Penno Junior and Seniors player, is now our 8th Australian representative after being selected in the Australian U19s. Naden is playing in the U19 World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe that started on Friday (16/1).
Naden played Juniors from the U9’s with us and his father, Joseph, was a long-term Volunteer as an Age Convenor and was also the Association Rep Secretary.

Naden played Seniors in 2019/20 (C1) and again in 2020/21 where he scored 139 runs @ 34.8 with a top score of 75 from just 4 games.
Congratulations Naden on this great achievement.

National Championships – Cory & Daniel
Last week, Cricket Australia ran the National Cricket Inclusion Championships – West Australia. We had Cory Brookhouse and Daniel McEwen, both D1 Blue, playing in the ‘Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability’ category.
Got this great message from Daniel’s, dad, Glenn:
“Some photos from the NCIC tournament.
Daniel and Cory both played well and did NSW proud. We finished 5th again but the team played well and ended up winning the Cricket Australia spirit of cricket award for the third year running.”
Well done Cory and Daniel!

One- hundred Club
As we enter the run into the Finals, 5 of our players are sitting on season averages of 100 or better.
| Centurians (minimum 100 runs & 4 innings) | |||||
| Name | Grade | Aggregate runs | Innings | Average | Club Grade record |
| Jude Boyle | A1 | 184 runs | 4 | 184.0 | 101.25 |
| Jackson Preedy | A1 | 267 runs | 6 | 133.5 | 101.25 |
| Karl Erdmanis | C3 | 116 runs | 6 | 116.0 | 47.82 |
| Luke Tabone | C4 Blue | 656 runs | 12 | 109.3 | 52.90 |
| Bala Raghuraman | D1 Blue | 174 runs | 8 | 174.0 | 74.60 |
Note:
For end of season records there is a minimum requirement of 250 runs aggregate runs to qualify for Club records and 300 runs for Association records but at the three-quarter mark of the season these players are all well on the way setting a new Club record – at a mimimum.
Next week we look at the bowlers.

Records within touching distance
Team
We have had an A2 side continuously since 1971/72 (48 seasons and 4 games to go) – continuously since 1996/97. They have now scored 99,191 runs at an average of 18.3 runs / wicket. With 4 games to go plus, hopefully. Semi Finals they are on the verge of being the 7th Grade to pass this milestone.
Batting
Highest average
- Jackson Preedy (A1) is averaging 133.5 (267 runs). Jackson is unfortunately out injured but, if he can hold this average he will set a new Club A1 season average that is currently 101.25 set by Matt Barr back in the 1999/2000 season
- Jude Boyle (A1) is averaging 184.0 (184 runs) and if he can reach the Club qualifying 250 season runs and hold this average he will be competing against teammate, Jackson, for the all-time Club record season average
- Luke Tabone (C4 Blue) is on the threshold of setting the following records:
- Luke currently has a career average (1,033 runs) of 60.8. This puts him just in front of Laurie Tuckerman (A1, 1951/52 to 1953/54) who finished with a career average of 59.3 as our best-ever batter
- In C4 Grade, Luke is averaging 157.3 (629 runs) the current record season average is 52.9 (Rick Turner 2012/13)

Bowling
Dave Larkham (D1 Blue) broke the all-time wicket taking record earlier this season. He now has 150 wickets and is just ahead of Roger Friend (146 wickets), the previous record holder and is building on this record.

Wicket-keeping
Records on this one are difficult as pre-2010/11 games were manually recorded. With this qualification, Ian Digby (D1 Blue) has 33 dismissals (27 x catches & 6 x dismissals) and is widening the gap on the previous record holder, Pratah Sinnetamby (29 dismissals).
