Anecdotes for Round 13 (1-Dayer) are available.
West Penno colours around the World
We have a great history of our players wearing their West Penno colours proudly around the world.
Our latest World traveller is Ravi Gunna (D1 Blue), who shared some great photos of himself, with our Baggy Blue, at The Eiffel Tower and Jungfraujoch (the top of Europe) – thanks so much Ravi!
We now have a dedicated Photo Gallery showing our players who have taken a photo wearing the West Penno Baggy Blue or Training shirt – check it out https://wphccc.com.au/gallery/west-penno-colours-around-the-worlds/
How about this for a sample of countries our folks have proudly represented West Penno: Bermuda, England (Bristol & Lords), Germany, Greece, India, Mt Everest and lots more countries.
Check out the Photo Gallery to see all the photos. A quick note that the new website has a few teething issues, as is always the case with now technology, so these photo’s don’t yet have the supporting commentary – this will happen soon.

Our NSWID High Achievers
How good is this one. During last week, 2 of our star D2 players, Corey Brookhouse and Daniel McEwen represented NSW in the ID National Championships played at Brisbane. To quote direct from proud dad, Glenn McEwen:
“…the photo of Corey and Daniel after the final match Vs WA the National Cricket Inclusion Championships which NSW ended up winning.
We finished 5th again (we were hoping top 4) but maybe next year.
Both boys played very well with good contributions with both bat and ball and Daniel managed a spectacular run out again this year.”
We are super proud of both boys – well done fellas!

What might have been
Back on 10 November our A1 boys played in the CNSW Community Cup – a T20 Competition with Teams from all over NSW – Metropolitan and Regional. Our 1st Round game was against Lindfield Shires 1st Grade and we just lost in a Super Over.
Linfield tied the 1st innings with a 6 on the last ball of their innings while 9 wickets down. In the Super over, batting 2nd we were 2/5 chasing 8 runs to win. Anyway, we lost a thriller but the boys were an absolute credit to our Club in both their performance and the way they played the game.
Fast forward to Sunday 19 January and Lindfield played in the Community Cup Final against Wollongong at Cricket Central. They lost this game in another close fought match but it showed how close our boys were to being in the top 2 Community Clubs in NSW.

West Penno boy ‘done good’
We have almost countless stories of our people who have excelled outside the playing field – highly successful Senior Executives, Business owners and the great mums and dads who have nurtured the West Penno family.
But….being a Sporting Club, achievements in the sporting area have a special interest.
Our latest high achiever in this space is Scott ‘Hendo’ Henderson – one of our greatest ever fast bowlers who dominated A1 for 8 years along with his opening partner Matt Spalding. Hendo was fast and scary and was one of the main foundations why we dominated A1 in 2011/12 to 2014/15 when we won 4 successive Rofe Shields (A1 Premierships).
Hendo played Juniors and then Seniors between 2004/05 and 2016/17 and A1 between 2009/10 and 2016/17 taking an amazing 169 A1 wickets @ 14.0 with a best of 6/15 + scored 1,942 runs @ 19.8.
Anyway on to achievements post cricket.
During the week, Hendo was appointed as the NRL’s Senior Manager – Major Event Operations – not bad for a passionate Roosters supporter. Prior to that though he was the Major Events and Venue Operations Manager for the SCG & Alliance Stadiums, Accor, London Stadium, Ken Rosewall Arena, leading the latest NRL Grand Final, Taylor Swift (The Eras) concerts and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Let’s not also forget our other high achieving Alumini in the Sports Management area – Simon Smyth (AFL) and Daniel Anderson (CNSW) who are both doing great things for their Sports. Apart from being West Penno Juniors all 3 of these folks played together in the mighty A1 Premiership winning side of 2011/12 – must be something in the beer (sorry – water).
Sporting heaven.

So much for a dry summer
We have had a few washouts since the Christmas break and last round every game our Teams played in were abandoned. Spare a thought though for A1, currently just 1 point off 2nd spot.
Going into this Round, there have been 11 matches scheduled.
Of these, 6 x games have been played to completion, 3 x have been abandoned and we have had 2 x Byes. All up, we have played on just 9 x Saturdays. Our last game was in Round 9, back on 21 December. So leading into this game the last time the boys took the field was 35 days ago.

Our new website – a snapshot of our history
Next week we will share some data insights into the first 2 weeks of our new website.
This week we will start with a great quote from the famous English author, Terry Pratchett:
“If you do not know where you come from, then you don’t know where you are, and if you don’t know where you are, then you don’t know where you’re going. And if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re probably going wrong.”
The ‘Significant Milestones’ link – https://wphccc.com.au/significant-milestones/ – gives you a snapshot of the major events in our 93 year history. Have a browse of this section, it will take about 60 seconds, to give you an understanding of the major events in our history and how this has shaped what you see and experience today.
