Association Team for 2000/01 to 2025/25

On Thursday night (19/2) the Association had it its Centenary celebration. One of the highlights was the announcement of the Team of the Millennium – 2000/01 to 2025/26.

West Penno had 2 players selected in this Team in a wonderful recognition of their stellar achievements. The players are:

Matt Barr (A1 1990/91 to 2004/05)

  • Matt opened the batting and scored 4,406 runs @ 39.7 including one season (1997/98) where he scored 780 runs @ 60
  • In 1997/98 Matt also won our Player of the Year
  • In 1999/2000 he scored 405 runs @ 101.3 – still an Association record season average
  • Matt was also an opening bowler and took 111 wickets @ 21.2

Sol Tomlinson (A1 – 2011/12 to 2016/17)

  • Sol opened the batting and scored 1,917 runs @ 28.6 with a high score of 111*
  • He was also a left-arm slow bowler taking 158 wickets at 10.7.  In 2014/15 he took 29 wickets @ 7.2 which is the current Club A1 record
  • Sol won our Player of the Year Award in 2011/12 & 2012/13
  • Finally, Sol played in all 4 consecutive Premiership wins between 2011/12 & 2014/15

Well done boys on this great achievement.

Haven’t we come a long way….

While elite Women’s cricket has been high-quality for over 90 years, Girls cricket was once seen as a novelty and treated as an after-thought to Junior Boys cricket. How times have changed – for the better.

Our Club has been a leader in offering cricket to Girls since we started in 1996/97 and have now registered over 1,400 Girls.

Last week we saw another big step in this evolution with our Girls given access to our Premier hard-wicket ground (Greenway Park) on both Saturday (Festival of Cricket) and Sunday (All-Age Metropolitan Cup).

A huge callout to our Club for supporting relocation of Junior Mixed and Seniors games to alternative grounds and the Association for making this happen in finding grounds that are already in short supply.

Pink Stumps Day

Last weekend (14/2) we had the combined Girls Festival of Cricket & Pink Stumps Day at Greenway Park.

Congratulations to Kapil Dev and our Girls Leadership Team who delivered a fantastic game day experience. They also raised a fantastic $1,169 for the wonderful McGrath Foundation.

We have been running a Pink Stumps Day since 2010/11 and have raised an amazing $71,663 for this great cause.
