Sunday game

WPHC Red (Karl) 161 defeated Sydney Lions 158

Given the Aussie summer weather, the Club’s hopes and dreams for to the weekend rested on the mighty C3 against Glenorie at Les Shore.

Off to a great start, winning the toss and election to bat.

Nick and James entered the arena.

Nick loves to pool anything short and today was no exception. A quick fire 17 before getting bowled. Callum joined James at the crease but was not his day, and lost his wicket cheaply, not the 50 he was hoping for…

Our first fill in, Advay, was next up.

James had a great knock but skyed it and Wil P took his position in the centre and looked like he was on a mission.

Narrator: he was not…

Prash joined his son at the crease and started blasting them all over the park. Just what the innings needed, ramping up the run rate.

Addy was caught and the skipper came in. Karl and Prash steadied the ship whilst pushing the runs onwards.

Prash got caught in the boundary and Will D came in.

The rain joined us at Glenorie and the ball started skidding. Will D got bowled and Damon, Alex and Luke fell in quick succession.  Innings ended with us on 161. Skipper left holding his bat on 38.

Wil P and Damon grabbed the shiny ball and each to a wicket in their spell. Father and son combo of Pashant and Addy were the first change- both taking the glory. Advay out doing his father, taking 2 wickets, both caught brilliantly by James. Glenorie’s opener remained unbeaten as did the rain.

Paul and James joined the attack. Paul getting the breakthrough and James’ offies took the next wicket.

Some old heads in Glenorie kept them in the race and suddenly, they were in striking distance. The battle of Captains (aided by a runner – haven’t seen that since ranatunga!) commenced with Karl taking spoils.

The game came down to the last 3 /4 overs.

Nail biting stuff vs Callum catching a Sky ball off Karl’s bowling. Brilliant end to a weak wet day.

WPHCCC won by 3 runs.
