Unfortunately the rain was the ultimate winner.

B1 Red (Todd) 7/147 defeated Glenorie 8/120
Don’t you just love summer — 40+ degrees one week, pouring rain the next.
After seeing the team chat light up with reports of rain all over Sydney, you’d be forgiven for thinking today might not be a cricket day. Volc was already predicting a pleasant drive to Les Shore followed by an inevitable wash-out. Somehow though, the rain decided to skip Glenorie, and we appeared to be one of the only teams in Sydney to actually get a game on.
To top off the miserable morning, Todd selfishly lost the toss and we were sent in to bat.
After calling off his own game, our very own Club Captain decided to stroll down the road and open the batting with Crawley, getting us off to a solid start and seeing off the new ball.
Cam unfortunately fell just as his fan club arrived, with Alec coming in to build a strong partnership with Crawley — a second-wicket stand England could only have dreamed of this Ashes. Alec was the first to go, agonisingly short of 50, while Crawley pushed on to pass the milestone, finishing with a well-made 54.
From there, the remaining batters chipped in with a handful of runs each, conditions getting trickier as the rain began to flirt with us again. We eventually posted a strong total of 147 from our 33 overs.
As has become tradition over the last three games, Todd and Dan tore in with the ball, picking up three early wickets for not many runs. I managed to take a nice catch off Todd’s bowling, hoping it might finally silence his ongoing campaign of misinformation about who won golf last week.
On a more serious note, identity theft is a real issue in Australia, with surveys suggesting that around 13% of Australians have experienced it at some point in their lives. We were provided a live demonstration when one of the Glenorie batters skied a catch. Cam (who I mentioned earlier, graciously filling in) called for it — only to become a victim of identity theft as “new Cam” (Alec) decided he was now club captain and took the catch himself.
All fun and games ‘cause he caught it nicely, but my attention now turns to how this new Cam plans to captain A-grade next week.
Continuing the identity theme, we are close to securing a brand-new one for Dan: now aged 24 and hailing from Wagga Wagga. So if you see someone at our games who looks like Dan, it isn’t him — it’s Angus.
He can also swing the ball around corners, with the added bonus that he’s allowed to bowl a seven-over spell. (If anyone from the Association is reading this — don’t worry, it definitely is just a joke.)
Keates and I continued to apply pressure, with Keates picking up two wickets, while the slips cordon perfected the art of throwing the ball either over Willy’s head or directly at his feet. Don’t worry — a bullying complaint has already been lodged with Ross, and Crawley has been fined $205.
Volc was enjoying a peaceful rest off the field before deciding he was bored, promptly going to have a chat with Cam on the boundary, where he then got yelled at by the umpire, in case the batsman gets confused that we placed two fielders standing next to each other in the deep.
Amit and Willy then reminded the Australian selectors that spin bowling does, in fact, still belong in cricket.
They shut the game down beautifully, not allowing Glenorie to get away and effectively sealing the win. Glenorie finished 8–120 at the end of their overs.
Hopefully next week the weather decides to let cricket happen without trying to ruin it for everyone.
WPHC (Prats) 7/129 drew with Berowra (match abandoned)
A warm welcome and hello to all long-term and new readers of the famed B1 match report, sit back relax and enjoy the trials and tribulations of a damp, wet and radar watching Saturday.
How good is cricket ladies and gentlemen… Matches are cancelled due to extreme heat & the next week you’re looking up at dark and grey clouds hoping you don’t get drenched in a rain shower.
We arrived at the Home of Cricket – Greenway which was well and truly living up to its name, it was a very, very green outfield and with only a small bit of mud in 2/3 places it was game on between us and our northern foes – Team Maroon.
Another toss went against us with Captain Prats who wanted this game called off at 10:30 it must be noted, losing another toss…. The voices are getting louder that Vice Captain Carlin take on the role of designated tosser given his famed record of being a huge one himself.
Batting first we got off to our usual turbulent start being 3-17 and then 4-30 in no time, nothing had changed over the Christmas period but if anything the mighty B1 Blue were consistent…
A 50-run partnership between Cement Head Dunkerley and Burgular Datar pushed our score closer to 100 before the king of tail-enders Reyhan “Steve” Ahmed strolled to the crease
Our boy Steve is so talented with the bat this season he is yet to obtain an average and today that wasn’t changing…
A swashbuckling 37* off 32 balls followed with Steve finding the gaps and getting the ball to the boundary on a slow and thick outfield finally getting our score to 7/129 off the full 35 overs
However, there was rain afoot and it was the ever present and looming danger just waiting to strike…. Radar checks every 10 mins said it was coming and boy when it hit it left no doubt of the result of today’s match
Abandoned!!
5-10 mins of constant heavy rain and the pitch was under water and after a small wait and consultation hands were shaken and another rain affected draw against our northern neighbours.
They’ve escaped us twice this season and this humble match reporter isn’t too happy about a 0-0 rivalry series so far.
No Shout-Outs today as play was too short and boring to think of any.
Next week we line up for another home game at the 1a Home of Cricket – Dural Park vs Glenorie and we expect a massive crowd for this monumental clash between 3rd and 8th place.
Till Next Week!!
Viva la Blue!

2026 has been nothing short of spectacular so far.
After round 10 did not see a ball being bowled due to an infamous heatwave, the attention quickly turned to a so-called cyclonic low which was about to wreak havoc across the state (or so did the weather apps say). So much so that round 11 saw half a game completed at the famous Thornleigh park, a ground notoriously known to become unplayable after 0.0000001 mm of rain.
With Chintan enjoying pickleball sessions with friends and family back home in India, Mridul enjoying his desert safaris in Oman, Vikrant making full use of his long service leave, we were lucky enough to have 10 others available. Thanks to Shakeel from B1’s for being the 11th this week.
Agni took charge and continued his toss luck from the 2024-25 season, losing his 18th in a row (Ross do we seriously have a Club Wisden for this?)
To our surprise, Normanhurst wanted to bowl first. While the ground conditions were ok, the rain never really went away as it shifted gears throughout the course of the next couple of hours.
Kudos to Normo for being a sport and taking on the challenge. Sitabja and Adi, a not so conventional opening duo started off the proceedings, much like proper test batters to begin with.
While one of Normo’s opening seamers bowled impeccable lines, the duo waited patiently before unleashing a wrath over the entire Normo attack. An opening stand of 108 and Adi fell for a very well made 53 while for Sitabja, the day had just begun.
Arun joined the party in classic Arun style with a lofted on drive over mid-on and with Sitabja managed a quickfire 70 run partnership. Sitabja carried on with a target in mind with Anubhav till an upper edge back to the bowler saw the end of him for a well made 80.
We finished our innings at 224 runs, a target which we were confident about defending.
Normanhurst also wanted to get playing till the rain made it just about unplayable as we were able to walk in to defend. With probable 12 points down the drain over the last two rounds, this makes things a little trickier for this squad to make it to the semis but as they say…..anything can happen in cricket till its done. Onwards and upwards lads!
Highlights
Sitabja & Adi – 108 run opening partnership
Sitabja Basu – 80 off 91 balls
Adi Nair – 53 of 58 balls

WPHC Red (Karl) 9/95 drew with Mt Colah (match abandoned)
Glenhaven OIval was the location for C3 to of the table clash.
A combo of brooms, blowers, mini excavator and wood chips saw the swimming pool removed. A half hour delay ensured this life and death competition could start on a dry (ish) pitch.
Karl won the toss and elected to bat.
Nick and Paul opened the batting. The Mount Colah pace bowlers left a little on the table. A chance of pace – from slow to very slow- caught Nick off guard and popped one back to the bowler. James took his place at the crease.
Paul was the next to leave, clean bowled – Mount Colah captain’s accuracy paying dividends.
Issac had a quick visit to the centre, followed by Wil P. Blink and you would miss them both. Our substitute player, Harshil, decided to stick it out in the centre a bit longer and was joined the by Skip.
Karl wasn’t able to settle in while the intermittent weather kept rolling in. Dom however got Harshil’s memo and the two of them stuck it out.
The partnership was so strong that when Dom exited he’s Harshil joined him.
Will D and Damo must have done a little rain dance and the gods answered in abundance.
Match abandoned.

WPHC Blue (Rob) 5/91 drew with CHRSL
Match Report not received.
WPHC Red (Ravi) 3/62 drew with Kissing Point
After the first game of 2026 was abandoned due to heatwaves, Grade cricketers were eagerly waiting to kick-off new year with some time in the park, but cloudy skies and steady drizzle welcomed the players on the day.
After losing toss Reds were sent to bat first.
Wet soggy pitch and outfield meant batting was always going to be tricky.
Another 1 hour wait ensued before play could finally begin at 2PM. The match was truncated to 28 overs per side with further possibility of losing overs if it rained.
Thick grass and big boundaries made the openers Vishnu and Sahil run hard for their runs.
Though Reds batted cautiously, a brilliant direct hit from mid wicket sent Sahil packing for naught. Arindam came, looked fluent, and played shots along the ground. However, he timed a drive too well and the catch was gobbled at cover.
Waman came in and looked his usual busy self, but conditions were not easy for shot making. The odd balls kept low, swung away late, some skidded and came in.
Waman unfortunately was run out trying to take an extra run when he fell short at bowlers end. Vishnu negotiated a tricky 3 balls and drinks was taken. Score read 62/3 in 14 overs, with Vishnu on 34* and new batter Daksh on 0*.
Unfortunately, no further play was possible for rest of the day due to relentless rain and thunderstorms.
Reds will look to build on momentum and go hard next week on what would be the last 1-day game of the season.
