WPHC (Cam #25) 0/23 Vs Normanhurst 219
I disclaim all liability for the dot points below, but for those who can’t be bothered to ready the whole report, a summary has been prepared by ChatG P Wu:
- Jamaican might be too old
- K may have run out of ideas
- Belly did keep like shit
- Harry could have a pea heart
- Jude (religion TBC) and Shaan are both good additions to the team
- Jack might win us the comp IF healthy
- Exciting that Ass was back
- He misses us
- No one will ever have enough
Onto the real report and we were back at that oval up North for the battle of Pennant Hills road with Normo, in what I believe is their 100th year as a Club.
Speaking of 100’s we really do need BCG back with the gloves. We did however welcome Ass (I think) back from a 5-month hiatus overseas in what I can only imagine would have been a trip filled with plenty of off season cardio to stay fit cause wow he came back looking good and with a pen pal from Greece.
Unfortunately T (I think) was out with hand foot and toe
Juw (emphasis on the U) spent the morning trying to find a SIM card with enough data to run the frog box. 30 gigabytes was the required but to remain on the safe side he went for a 60. Didn’t matter in the end as the frog box was still not live (we will get this sorted eventually) so guess he has plenty of data for some post game extracurriculars.
Onto the cricket and we lost the toss for the 4th game in a row and were bowling.
But wow what a start from the cartel having them 2 for nothing early before some fight back from Normo.
Ultimately our bowlers took wickets at steady intervals – Jack 4, Oli 3, Harry 2, P 1 to have them all out for 219. Would they have enough?
Highlight of the day was from some kids at the skate back offering plenty of advice to some of our team members. Belly did tell them where to go but he used a three-syllable word so we’re not sure if they fully understood. We’ll chat to Griff and organise a private lesson (assuming there is a school up there).
It was a tricky little 13 overs to end the day so P ensured he had 4-night watchmen ready but our openers stood tall with K and J leaving us unbeaten with another 200 to chase down next week. It was great viewing such a stable partnership from the new table at the oval. Really good to see the council spending our taxpayer money effectively.
Bit of rain around next week but hopefully it clears and we can get on and chase down another total at that oval up north.

A2 Blue (Warren) Vs Berowra 4/306
Welcome back readers to another day of this amazing sport.
Today, to put it lightly, was a depressing day of cricket. As you all can imagine, this match report will be brief, but full of spunk.
We arrived at the Dural highway and Warren “Mugabe” Schwartzel lost the toss. A great start.
The Berowra openers toiled away and to be fair, batted well, thwarting away the bad balls and knocking the good balls away for 1s and 2s. They put on 270 before Tanay “number 1 ranked all-rounder and bowler of the Sydney LMS champions series” Hira got the breakthrough, thankfully the catch went to someone with gloves on.
Matty “son of Mugabe” Schwartzel, promoted from A1s, also took a wicket, yay.
Tanay also took 2 more wickets so that was cool, he was the pick of the bowlers and ended with 3-45 from his 12 overs.
Anyways, they ended on 306 after 74 overs. Today was a tough pill to swallow for us, but on the bright side I’m having beer and ribs for dinner.
Thank you for reading. Like and subscribe.
A2 Red (Todd) Vs Sydney Lions 287
One day, a group of mischievous Modenese soldiers snuck into Bologna after a skirmish.
Passing through the city’s main square, they spotted a wooden bucket hanging from a well near the town hall. Ordinary to everyone else — but to them, it was treasure. They stole it, and a ridiculous war began.
Fast forward 700 years to Greenway Oval, and history repeated itself. The Sydney Lions didn’t steal a bucket, but they did take something just as precious — the toss.
After a glorious three-match streak of winning tosses, our run of dominance finally ended. A dark day indeed. But like any great dynasty, its legacy will live on in the record books (and the team chat).
We were sent in to bowl — which, to be fair, we wanted to do anyway. The outfield looked fast enough to qualify for a speeding ticket, however Todd (5-46) immediately struck early with Az finally getting a ball to go to him behind the stumps.
Then… the quiet before the storm. Sydney Lions rolled to 1-155, and the mood in the field began to resemble climbers at the base of Mount Everest — hopeful, but mostly questioning their life choices.
Enter Meiks (1-69) and Willy (1-34), who joined the fight to stop the bleeding. Dan took a sharp catch off Meiks, breaking their partnership and finally giving us something to shout about besides “Stop bowling there!”.
Momentum swung. Captain Todd, clearly inspired by tales of medieval heroism, led from the front, ripping through their middle order with another four wickets — including the centurion.
With tight lines from Jack (1-45), Dan (1-19), and Meiks, we cleaned up the Lions for 287 — a brilliant comeback that made the early struggle feel like a bad dream (or facing James lightning quick pace in the nets).
Az and Arjun then strode out to face the final few overs of the day. Az, in his usual “fear is for mortals” mode, belted a boundary through cover, and we ended the day on 0-7, standing tall after a long battle.
As for team news — Volc has followed through on last week’s declaration of “Why do I play this stupid game at 50?” and officially took the game off.
Meanwhile, Lachy’s “injury” is under investigation. Sources say it may be less “twisted ankle” and more “broken heart.”
Reports suggest he spent the day scouting the A Grade, possibly to catch a glimpse of his estranged hero, Ben.
The saga continues. Rumour has it he’ll “unfortunately grace us with his presence” next week, lucky we aren’t fielding.

WPHC (Prats) 1/22 Vs Berowra 169
A warm welcome and hello to all long term and new readers of the famed B1 match reports, sit back relax and enjoy the story on 1 hell of a rollercoaster Saturday.
The day begun at Warrina Street against our northern foes in what would be one of the battles for the ages between good and evil (all of us in WPHCCC colours are always the good).
With a team for week 1 slanted towards bowling we had no other choice but win the toss and get the red cherry in hand, however that didn’t happen because Prats can’t call a toss but it goes our way eventually with our opposition choosing to bat first and boy oh boy that proved wrong very quickly….
Our strong opening combination of Hot-Head/Take Watkins and Rey “Profiled” Ahmed got the ball in hand and got straight to business ripping apart the Maroon Men’s top order apart to the tune of 4/34 off 17 overs and yet again our strategy of wickets in batches was yet again in full effect.
On after the break change was Benny ‘Cash King” Waldron who bowled with great pace and Dean “Dibbly Dobbler” Carlin who managed to get 2 wickets bowling puss with a ball that was in atrocious condition after only 25 overs…. Again council can we get some water and fresh grass on these ground, we ain’t playing in the Sahara.
At 6/46 and going on 2:40 (take note of that time) we were all over the opponents and dreams and beliefs of a small total was in sight for the mighty WPHCCC…. However, what we all saw was fake, false and a mirage of good things that just never ever happens in cricket especially not against this lot
Next up was what can only be described as some of the most dire, boring and flat out painstaking cricket known to human kind to the point that this humble match report writer’s brain is still fried and frazzled after suck excruciating pain….
We went a full 36 overs without a wicket, we tried everything and almost everybody got a bowl, what didn’t help was a ball that looked like multiple dogs had chewed on it and we even got a ball change at one point and that still didn’t work.
Now I’m not a religious man and even I was looking to the heavens for my prayers to get answered because this game was trending towards never ending and can you imagine being stuck in the suburb of B*****a for the rest of your life, god that’s horrifying.
Finally, the prayers of the side had been answered after almost 3 LONGGGG hours when “Mr Cricket” Prats delivered up a beautiful wicket from our favourite category called – Shit gets Wickets, lovely stuff and he wasn’t done there adding 2 more for match best figured of 3-17.
Lastly our man Cam “High-Bun” Bliss knocked over the 1 set batsmen finally after we gave him 3 separate lives during the game…
With 3 overs left in the day we had to get the pads on and hoped to make an impact on the total we needed to chase and most importantly smash the ball into the sand and make it useless like it was for us.
That didn’t completely go to plan as unfortunately Aden “Space Cadet” Hanich got a seed and was sent packing with 5 balls left in the day…
Up next to finish up the day was Dean “How’s he batting 3” Carlin on his nightwatchman duties again and thankfully despite a few questionable and stupid pokes at the ball we managed to see out the day in a strong position of 1-22 off 3 overs needing just 148 next week for a perfect 4/4 start to the season
A few special shout-outs before we head off:
- A period of mourning has been declared in the B1 community as resident spinner Nathan “Common Sense” Watkins has been tragically taken down by a sniper – RIP Nath’s Hamstring
- Shou-tout to our Man Rey – yes that’s his name!!! What else would it be…. Ben, Steve, Bill or Jack?? No it’s Reyhan and everybodyyyyyyyyy know’s that…. Expect 1 curious opponent today – no accusations here but I think that’s Rac**t
- How dare they schedule Australia vs India to clash with the greatest Club competition on planet earth the Mighty HKHDCA, personally this match report writer is disgusted in such scheduling conflicts and hope the ICC fix this immediately…. WPHCCC is Number 1 always
Thank you all for reading and we hope to deliver a famous and very much popular victory against Team Maroon next week….
If not Jamaican and Rosco may have all our heads on a platter
Till Next Week!!!

WPHC (Sparsh) 0/98 Vs Normanhurst 144
After missing more than half of our team to void of the Ind Vs Aus game in Sydney we called upon some highly quality substitute players who made more than an impact.
After arriving we lost the toss, and were asked to bowl first – exactly what we wanted.
Mikey and P. Pamija opened brilliantly, forming a spectacular partnership with the ball to have the opposition four down for very little, helped by some sharp catching in the field. However, their fifth-wicket partnership managed to steady things before Harshil struck back with a crucial wicket, removing “the hack.”
From there, it was all about a spin masterclass from Shankar “Murali” Ravi, who tore through the tail with his trademark turn and control. Shanks was well supported by Keats, who claimed a great wicket, and Amit, whose tight bowling kept the pressure on as we wrapped up the innings in style.
We eventually bowled them out for 144 in just over 40 overs, setting the stage perfectly for what would become a batting masterclass.
Corby and Allan opened the innings in spectacular style, showing complete control and confidence at the crease.
Not a single false shot was played during the 25 overs faced, with boundaries flying to all parts of Headen Park.
The pair batted with precision and patience, putting on an unbroken stand of 98 by stumps. Corby finished the day on a composed 48, while Allan was equally impressive with 41.
We head into next week in a dominant position, looking to wrap up the game after what was almost a perfect Day 1 performance.

WPHC (Aniket) Vs ARL 8/279
Just like for many other teams, the week before the match was …. hectic – trying to get a squad of 11 for both weeks on the team sheet.
Thanks to the greatest Club in the world, we had players from other grades willing to help us out for this 2 dayer. Special thanks to Rohan Asija, Lakshan Perera and Arunava Chaudhuri !
Asquith won the toss and decided to bat first @Bannockburn Oval.
It’s the battle of the Titans – both teams are winless after 3 rounds – and desperate for their first victory.
Asquith openers made a quick start, and were 90/0 in 18 overs.
Both openers scored 50’s and added 121 for the first wicket – with Saurabh getting the first wicket out bowled.
We had been able to put some brakes on the scoring but the wickets were still hard to come. Rohan got another wicket and Asquith went into lunch at 161/2 in 40 overs.
Rohan bowled some tight spells and was rewarded with a couple of quick wickets after lunch.
With Asquith at 171/4 in 44 overs, the opening batsman found some company in their number 6 batsman. Both of them batted sensibly over the next few overs.
Mohan bowled some tight overs and was supported well by the other bowlers – Anand, Lakshay and Raynaldo.
After showing some excellent wicket keeping skills, Raynaldo was called in to bowl his leg spin in an attempt to break the partnership.
Asquith’s set opening batsman was finally out (for 90 runs) stumped to the medium pace of Amitava. Excellent work behind the stumps by Chetan. (Chetan followed this up with an excellent low catch standing up to the stumps).
Amitava was not done yet and he took another wicket – his 150th wicket for the club – as the next batter was out to an excellent catch at short mid-wicket.
The score was now 232/6 in 63 overs. As we got closer to the end of the day, Asquith tried to score some quick runs.
Saurabh managed to get a couple of wickets off consecutive balls in his last over of the day.
Asquith finished the day at 279/8 in 71 overs.
(Shout out to Rohan Asija (A2) – helping us in Week 1 and bowled tirelessly – 17 overs 46 runs, 3 wickets)
When we come back next Saturday – we hope to get the last 2 wickets quickly and chase the total to get our first win of the season !

WPHC Blue (Rob) 3/64 Vs Castle Hill RSL 208
The two-day match between Castle Hill RSL and WPHCCC Blue (25th of October & 1 of November) at Northholm Grammar School saw a close and hard-fought battle between bat and ball.
WPHCCC Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first on Day One.
Castle Hill RSL started out quickly with a few early boundaries, but Ryan Manson soon halted their momentum with a sharp spell that claimed two crucial wickets. The pressure continued to build as Luke Tabone produced a spectacular screamer in the field, a moment that lifted the entire WPHCCC Blue side.
Maintaining tight lines and disciplined bowling, WPHCCC eventually bowled out Castle Hill just before the last hour of play, capping off a strong team effort with the ball.
In reply, WPHCCC Blue batted steadily against Castle Hill’s attack, showing good patience and control.
They finished the day around 60 for 3, holding firm and setting up a strong position for Day Two.
WPHC Red (Ravi) 8/198 Vs Kissing Point
Firstly, a big thank you our fellow Club mates Vikrant and Agniva who came in as fill ins today, hopefully those who were absent to watch the India Vs Aus game get their money’s worth because Kohli avoided a Hattrick of ducks in the series.
There are only a few certainties in life – death, taxes and Ravi losing toss.
Asked to bat first on big ground with slow outfield, our openers Vikrant and Jassi started watchfully and scored runs at a good rate. Just as the momentum was building up Jassi got castled by slower dipping ball pegging his off stump back. Vikrant and Arindam built partnership with both of them looking compact and solid, but an accurate direct hit got Vikrant short by centimetres. Fair to say that it looked like the only way he would get out, given that he was watching the ball like a basketball till that point.
Amith joined Arindam and continued the watchful game, with Arindam looking solid in defence and scoring the occasional boundaries. What followed was a mini collapse with Arindam getting bowled for a well made 30, Amith getting caught and Anant getting bowled after the ball deflected off his shoulders. 3 wickets fell for 1 run and Reds were in a spot of bother at 91/5.
Daksh put the pressure back with a 6 and 4 in one over but nicked off chasing a wide one in the same over. The score soon became 104/6 from a strong 90/2.
Skipper Ravi joined Vishnu and started rebuilding by soaking up all the pressure. Just when the partnership was building Ravi was trapped LBW.
It was a brave, but correct call against the skipper as the umpire Siby was checking with almost everyone in the field to validate his decision.
Nirav joined Vishnu and continued from where Ravi left off.
What followed was the best partnership (58) of the day with both batsmen buckling down with strong defences and occasional boundaries to ensure the side didn’t get all out on day 1. Vishnu helped himself to his first 50 for the C4 Reds this season and Nirav attacked the spinners whenever the length was short.
Vishnu got out for a well-made 55 with 3 overs to go for the close of day with an ugly slog and getting trapped LBW. Tushar and Nirav made sure there were no more hiccups to help Reds close out Day 1 at 198/8.

From 91/5 against accurate disciplined bowling with their tails up, this looked a massive recovery. Reds will look to add some quick runs in another 10-15 overs on Day 2 and get them all out for a valuable first innings lead.

1-Day games
WPHC Blue (Roger) 7/127 defeated Kissing Point 8/126
Kissing point won the toss and elected to bat first – after losing 2 quick wickets with 5 runs on the board, their 3rd wicket pair put on 65. Mahesh Shinde managed to deliver the break through with a difficult caught and bowled.
They reached 126/8 after the allotted 35 overs.
Tejpratap Singh and Mahesh Kadaganchi who picked up 2 wickets each were the highest wicket takers.
After batting 2nd we were 4 for 11 runs at one point and a 47 run partnership for the 5th wicket between Vinoth Sambasivam and Malinda Dharmadasa provided some stability.
After starting conservatively Vinoth Sambasivam made an explosive 75 not out including 6 sixers and 8 fours which enabled us to reach the target in 25.1 overs.

WPHC Red (Diggers) 129 lost to St Ives Wahroonga 9/130
Originally the game was scheduled to be played at Mimosa Oval, Turramurra, but a late opening at Storey Park, Asquith provided an opportunity to play on a turf wicket which is not normally afforded for D Grade cricket.
We arrived at Storey Park with a lot of enthusiasm and Disco bought a new pair of cricket shoes for the occasion. Ross also brought down a couple of pairs of his son’s spikes to really take advantage of the turf wicket.
Captain Diggers lost the toss and we were asked to bat.
Cliff and Ross opened the batting to some good line and length bowling from St Ives, which saw the ball mostly stay low and didn’t show a lot of swing.
St Ives bowlers were doing their job and we had a steady flow of wickets falling. And at drinks we were 4/50 with Pravin and Capt Diggers at the crease. The two put on a great partnership of 85 runs before Pravin was out for 57 and later Capt Diggers for 20. The partnership got us back in the game.

Some late order hitting from Parin (13) enabled us to get a defendable score of 129 all out on the last ball.
After the break Disco and Parin opened the bowling, but St Ives came out to bat and started hitting the boundary.
A couple of early wickets from Disco and a great spell from Munish (3/14 off 7) started to claw the game back and at the drinks break St Ives were at a similar position to our score at the same point.
After drinks St Ives again started to increase the tempo with some big hitting.
Some absolute outstanding fielding by Zac (both catching and a run-out thrown from the deep from mid-wicket) kept us in the game.
At this stage Buzz was bowling brilliantly and in his 5th over took 2 wickets in 2 balls with St Ives 9 down needing a further 17 runs.
Despite our efforts in the field and with the ball, St Ives were able to chase down the winning runs in a close game.
D2 Grade
WPHC (Ross S) Vs Kissing Point 7/237
Day 1 and we rocked up to Les Shore no 1. Field looking lightning fast.
Skipper hoping to win his 4th toss in a row and bat, but not to be. KP win the toss and bat.
A very tiring day in the field. With luck not on our side. 8 bowlers used today.
Only 1 difficult chance put down in the first 20 overs, and no chances given by the KP side, before the first KP wicket to Jaques with leg stump cartwheeling. KP 1/77 after 24 overs. A long time until the next wicket, 2 balls before tea. A sharp chance taken by Jaques in short cover off Muthindra. KP 2/119 at tea off 38 overs.
After the break bowlers rotated to try generate some wickets. Balls popped in the air into gaps, a couple of catches put down which hurt as an Opposition batter goes past 50…finally a treble breakthrough . Sandeep 2 wickets in the same over Stumps cleaned up twice then a caught and bowled. 3 wickets to Sandeep KP 5/172..off 49 overs….
More bowling changes and finally a first seniors wicket to Chris, well caught by Jaques at midoff….KP 6/200 with 17 overs left and us hopeful of cleaning KP up before stumps.
But KP batters dig in with just 37 runs scored off the last 20 overs. Some streaky edges and a few too many sundries as we get tired….
Just before stumps a wicket to Dharval, caught behind by Ross. At stumps KP 7/237 off 73 overs.
Bowlers toiled hard all day. Wickets to Sandeep 3/21(12), Jaques 1/25(17), Muthindra 1/46(12), Dharval 1/40(11) and Chris 1/18(2). 2 catches to Jaques and 1 to Ross.
Great effort in the field by everyone on a draining day…
Big shout out to our U14 Vedhar Visakan who after fielding 30 overs in the morning in Juniors spend another 73 in the field in the afternoon as well as bowling 6 overs. Must have been so hard, and not a complaint……thanks Vedhar
So next week we don’t know if KP will continue, never-the-less a score we can chase on a lightening fast field.
