WPHC (Cam #25) 2/216 dec defeated  St Ives-Wahroonga 86 & 4/144

Welcome back to Kenthurst for day 2 and before we get to the game, it would be remiss of me to not give a quick shout-out to some of the lower graders in the Club following in P’s footsteps and scoring bulk runs to start the season. Good to see some potential FAGs (Future A Graders) doing well.

Speaking of former FAGs (again that stands for Future A Graders), I found out today that we have 4 former rising stars in the team. This includes the two most recent whereby Jamaican was the deciding vote. Such is his character that he withdrew the vote so jUw (emphasis on the u) and O tied for rising star. Jamaican told me that he would’ve 100% OBJECTIVELY voted for O though.

A big week for Jamaican after ALLEGEDLY being sexually assaulted by Gee at a work lunch. Proving Jamaican’s character he bounced back and when jUw (again emphasis on the u) needed a lift to the game he kindly offered to take him. I have however heard that Ju refused to pay for fuel really living up to his name.

Anyway onto the game and completely forgot to mention it last week but Belly finally got a bat. Unfortunately K declared on him to start day 2. Did he really bat that bad in the nets on Friday? High on confidence from this same net the day before after targeting genitalia, K bowled well without luck.

O also bowled well and snagged one, but if grade are reading this he actually bowled really bad and probably needs another year with us for development. Unfortunately Benny blew his back out as a result of his 65m run up. The rest of the bowlers toiled away, with Andy and the Hando brothers getting one each. My favourite wicket was Jacks with a great catch from Harry and a nice send off to boot.

Despite the steady wickets, eventually the rain won as a storm rolled in and ended proceedings early with a bit of an empty feeling but still another 6 points and 5 in a row for the boys.

Post game Jack insisted on going back to the boarding house days with a post match shower with Belly (P to join next week) which I thought was odd but I don’t know what happens in those private boys schools so play on I guess.

As the season goes on we miss him more and more but as always in his memory, the Richard’s Memorial Medal votes for the week are as follows:

3 – P
2 – Jamaican
1 – O

All eyes move towards round 6 against Kissing Point next week up at Parklands.

A2 Blue (Warren) 44/118 defeated  A2 Red (Todd) 70 & 0/64

“The story was writing itself and I was having a hard time keeping up with it”.

Hemingway might as well have been talking about the love story of the season. Lachy continues insisting he’s totally fine after his separation from Ben — apparently we’re the ones over-exaggerating the heartbreak (this is despite the fact we  saw him crying in his car once.

But the upside? With no time spent standing in the field staring longingly at Ben, Lachy can actually field this year. He even took an outrageous diving catch in gully in the first over. I don’t like complimenting him, but it was genuinely sensational. That’s my compliment quota for the next few weeks gone — he won’t hear another nice word until late December.

Last week was rough, but we started strong and gained momentum through Todd and Dan. (We’re still working on getting Dan a fake birth certificate so he doesn’t have to stop bowling after six overs. Progress is slow but promising.)

Shaan apparently spent the week watching Tom Brady highlight reels, because he produced an absolute laser to get a direct-hit run-out.

After spending a few days marking ancient history, Keats finally decided to join us. He immediately grabbed 3 wickets and found himself on a hat trick — one of those wickets thanks to an elegant running high catch from Bish.

Unfortunately, Keats took his second wicket on the last ball of the over, which meant that with them 9 down, the boys threatened me with a fine if I took the next wicket. Luckily, I’ve had plenty of practice not taking wickets (see my previous 10 overs). As for Keats, he might be the one copping the fine anyway after bowling his hat-trick ball somewhere down leg side, possibly into another postcode.

Batting again, 80 runs behind, Arjun opened and looked absolutely sublime — 35 not out and timing it like he was in a different league.

Lachy also opened and… yeah, he was fine.

The game ended at tea when a storm rolled through, which was honestly perfect timing for us.

WPHC (Prats) 106 & 1/18 lost to Thornleigh 170

A warm welcome and hello to all long term and new readers of the famed B1 match report, sit back relax and enjoy the trials and tribulations of a dull and lifeless Saturday

Spirit of Cricket? What is it, does it exist and when should it be applied to the laws of cricket? That’s what I’m pondering after our Saturday of play at the Home away from Home of Cricket Dural Park

All week we prayed and prayed of showers of rain and when the BOM predicted rain we thought our prayers would be answered…. The BOM was wrong again for what feels like the 1,493,821 time in the history of mankind, every since that update you can’t trust em (CHANGE IT BACK)

Now back to the cricket I guess!! It’s why everybody is here and why head of propoganda at the WPHCCCP Rosco “Iron-First” Anderson gets up at 5am every sunday morning….

Okay now actually back to the cricket if I’m really being forced to write this…. In a short form way today was not fun for everybody and we somehow talked more about SLOPES then actual cricket tactics….

Dural Park does not have a slope, The sporto doesn’t have a slope, B1’s team form may be on a downward slope but I digress

Okay 3rd times the charm now to the cricket and the task we had Infront of us…. Take 9 for 25 and win the game, surely easy work and we could do it no issue….

Our Opposition passed our score at 1:22 in the afternoon

Now usually in the spirit of cricket or in the HKHDCA morality rules you either bat on a couple overs from that point and make sure the books are right and shake hands to head home or you attempt to bat on and try and go for an outright victory…

Our opposition somehow decided that would do neither but manage to bat all the way down to 11 and give our quotient a nice big square up in the process

2 wickets for Hot Take Patty W + 4 wickets a piece to Prats “Disposable Income” Datar and Nathan “Handicap” Watkins especially congrats to our man Nath picking up 4 wickets despite his crippling “disability”

Now that we had rolled them and they officially wanted to go home we decided to be a little petty and spiteful as is our want and to just really agitate the opposition who violated the sanctites of the spirit of HKHDCA cricket

We managed to knock off a quick 20 runs but lost a wicket in the process and just as the tea break so did another big western storm, now it would have been at 1pm not 2 1/2 hours later once the game and our weekend was officially ruined….

Lessons learnt this game and plenty of positives to take out for this game for the mighty B1’s

New Nicknames have been established

  • Drill Instructor, Old Man, Handicap etc etc….
  • Shak Mistry appeared finally and we can confirm he’s alive and kicking and not just a name on a spreadsheet
  • Will “Fresh Salad” McLennan found his batting ability and his sister’s sunnies that he thought was a fashionable item (We can’t confirm nor deny the potential existence of Will’s Sister)
  • We decided as a collective unit no more backing up when running, no more non-strikers run-outs for the B1’s…. RIP Blissy’s Wicket

Now we move on to next week’s fixture and we head right out to the north west in Glenorie

Les Shore Number 1

Now that’s a ground that has a SLOPE!!

Till Next Week!!!

WPHC (Sparsh) 223 defeated Hornsby Green 217

Nothing is sweeter than a victory at the home of cricket, Greenway, against our arch-rivals and previous C2 champs, Hornsby. It was so great because they thought they were going to win. Glorious! Unfortunately, somehow I got roped into doing this match report (dammit Renesh!).

After having Hornsby 3/45 overnight (needing like 223 to win), we started the day strong with some great bowling from Manas and John, but it was Ratul who struck early with an absolutely amazing, terrible wicket. The batter tried to paddle or sweep or whatever he was doing, a slow, long hop.

It was so slow that he completely missed the ball and got bowled. The batter was so distraught that he questioned everything about batting and was forced to umpire (basically straightaway). Hornsby managed to put on a partnership, but every time they looked like they were going ahead, they lost a wicket. Shanks picked up a caught & bowled, and Manas took a great catch at midwicket to dismiss one of their best bats, who was hitting sixes for fun, a clutch catch (and not his first one).

Some good tight bowling made it tougher for Hornsby, as they needed 50-odd runs to get with 4 wickets left. One of their batters got hit wicket, somehow, but hey, it was a wicket to John Koleth, who was coming back from having his wisdom teeth removed. The Hornsby team were cocky; they thought this was going to be easy until John cleaned up another of their decent bats.

A rain delay came and went – leading to this simple equation: 2 wickets, 27 runs.

The guys were ready to win this. The big guns, Manas and John, were ready to bowl the team to victory.

John got the 2nd last wicket thanks to another clutch catch from Manas, who looked calm and collected under the ball.

Just one wicket for us to get with 11 runs left in the shed. Everyone in the crowd was counting down the runs, wondering how this would play out. Hornsby got it down to single digits, but Manas and John kept putting on the pressure.

Number 11 used his pad more than his bat, leading to many appeals that weren’t given (this annoyed Hiresh, who was trying to capture the winning moment with his so-called artistic eye). But John Koleth steamed in and clean bowled their last batter with an amazing ball, allowing us to win at Greenway by a small margin of 6 runs (Hornsby – 217 all out). It was an absolute thriller.

The two quicks, Manas (1/35 and 2 clutch catches) and John (4/25, including an amazing hit wicket), bowled amazingly in clutch time to snatch victory for us (like that was some ODI death bowling stuff). Shout out to Ratul for his absolute dross wicket to get the start we needed (1/29 – Nice Ratul!), and Mayank, whose spell put a lot of pressure on the batters. Oh, and Shanks got 2 wickets, but whatever.

It was a great victory against our arch-rivals at Greenway. It showed that we can come back from tough situations with bat and ball, with everyone contributing, including Hiresh.

On to the next match to try and make it 4 wins on the trot!

WPHC (Aniket) 4/205 defeated Mt Colah 196

Having successfully restricted Mount Colah to under 200 runs our team entered the chase with confidence, determined to secure our first win of the season. Ray and Vinod opened the batting and looked in excellent touch, displaying solid technique and a calm approach to handling Mount Colah’s opening bowlers. They ensured the scoreboard kept ticking without taking unnecessary risks.

The first wicket came in the 11th over when Ray, attempting to accelerate the scoring went for a big shot but ended up being caught on the boundary. This brought Rohan to the crease. Rohan had a flight to catch and was planning to leave by 3:30, but he clearly had other ideas. Wanting to wrap things up quickly he launched into the Mount Colah bowlers scoring a blistering 57 runs off just 38 balls, including 7 fours and 3 sixes.

His rapid-fire innings kept us on track, although we did lose Vinod at the other end during the same period.

After his stellar performance with the ball, Dan was eager to make his mark with the bat. However, he fell victim to Mount Colah’s captain leaving us with Lakshya to join Rohan at the crease. The two of them steadied the ship, with Lakshya offering solid support to Rohan’s fireworks. But soon after, Rohan’s explosive innings came to an end.

This brought Saurabh to the middle. In the very first over, he was almost dismissed off a sharp catch to the captain, but he managed to survive and make the most of his lucky break. Saurabh batted with composure, making sure to pick his gaps and rotate the strike, while Lakshya continued to play a calm, steady hand at the other end.

Just when we were looking to close out the match, here comes the thunderstorms, halting play for nearly an hour. The break left everyone on edge, as we were in a strong position to grab our first win of the season. Finally, the blue skies returned, Lakshya and Saurabh wasted no time in returning to the crease. Both of them shifted gears immediately, quickly accelerating the run chase.

In just 40 minutes, the pair saw us home, with Saurabh finishing unbeaten on 53* and sealing an unbroken 98-run partnership with Lakshya.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance, with contributions from everyone with bat ball and in the field. We had steady partnerships throughout, with consistent 20-30 run contributions that helped build our confidence and keep the chase on track. It was an excellent and well deserving win for everyone involved.

* Rohan had to leave early so couldn’t take his pic celebrating his 50 run contribution.

* Once again thank you Rohan and Sagnik for helping out

WPHC (Indranil) 165 lost to Sydney Lions 9/286 dec

Before play began, Sydney Lions showed great sportsmanship by allowing us a substitute player for Week 2 after a late injury notification—true club spirit in action.

Despite being surprised that Sydney Lions continued batting beyond a healthy 250+ score, we started the day short of three bowlers due to Week 1/Week 2 changes. However, Vishnu and Dinesh stepped up brilliantly, wrapping up the tail in just six overs.
Bowling highlights:

  • Vishnu: 2/33
  • Dinesh: 2/14
  • Kapil: 2/31
  • Jaydev, Rizul, and Alex: 1 wicket each

Keeper Indranil had an excellent day behind the stumps, claiming 4 catches and 1 stumping—a standout effort.

Chasing 287 in 61 overs was always going to be a tall order. Our new opening pair, Nic and Divit, started cautiously but fell early, bringing Oliver (26) and Dinesh (49) together for a solid partnership. Dinesh was unlucky to miss his first fifty of the season but looked in great touch and gave us hope.

Prashant 22 then anchored the middle order with sensible batting until the final hour. Unfortunately, once he fell, the new batsmen struggled to hold their ground, and our innings ended with four overs still left in the day.

Another positive mention is 2 x U15 juniors – Divit and Aarush, showed great courage to umpire during the crucial phase and did not come under pressure from the opposition appeals.

A big shout out to all the fill-in players this round – Oliver (B1), Will (B1), Nic Price (B1), Lakshya (C1), Rizul (fill-in), Jaydev Singh (U15 jr),

This marks the team’s fourth loss in a row (with one washout). Morale isn’t where we’d like it to be, but we remain positive and focused for the rest of the season.
Next stop: Round 6 at Alubua Oval.

WPHC Blue (Chintan) 8/336 dec defeated Beecroft 78

🏆

Headlines: West Penno won by 277 runs! No ordinary feat – well done boys!

Highlights:

  • Sayantan Sen – 61*
    • Praneel Singh – 51
    • Manraj Singh – 3/25

Special thanks to our visiting former team-mate (and soon to be permanent team mate ;-), Amith Ninan, had 1 wicket to his name and 2 outstanding outfield catches. Deal for next season is closed with him now ;)

Throughout the week, the weather was a hot topic of discussion. With thunderstorms predicted during the afternoon, we were in 2 minds whether to declare on our already strong 330+ total, or get a few more runs on the board. At the end, we decided to play a few overs and try to get to 350+

Sayan continued his form from the previous week and wasted no time in getting a boundary off the first ball and thereby reaching a classy half century. We added about 20 runs to our previous weeks total to get to 355. The message was clear – lets aim for an outright.

Mridul and Pritam started strong, and after some really tight bowling, had Beecroft at 3 wickets down for a measly 26.

We never really let Beecroft settle down with any partnerships, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Some magic bowling led by Mridul and Pritam with 2 wickets followed by Manraj picking up 3 wickets and Adi finishing with 2 wickets.

The last wicket fell at the perfect timing – on the last ball before tea break at 3.30, after some brilliant fielding by Anubhav. I say perfect timing because we soon had thunderstorms sweeping over Campbell Park.

With not much of a chance to go for an outright, the Captains agreed to call it a day.

This solidifies our position in the comp.

Let’s go Blues!

WPHC Red (Karl) 8 dec 261 defeated Sydney Lions 175

Starting the day with two Sydney Lions wickets in the bag and then chasing a solid total of 261, we had with our tails up. Wil and Isaac opened the day. Over 2 Issac picked up our first wicket for the day.

Paul diving around in the outfield saving fours here there and everywhere. Whilst James D did the same at slips.

Jimmy joined the attack. The senior Wilkin put body on the line dislocating a finger. Dr Karl couldn’t resolve the issue on the field so Mick was sent to hospital.

Issac picked up one – clean bowled.

Lions skied the ball a couple of times. Callum dropped one, definitely not near Alex. One dropped between Nick and Wil

Karl came into bowl. Two chances went missing in his first over but found a gap, blasting the leg stump. Nick joined Karl, proving opportunity after opportunity-unfortunate not to capitalise.

Karl was putting the ball exactly where he wanted and picked up another for his efforts. Straight through him.

We were looking like a tram on for renewed by Callum who caught an absolute screamer of Alex’s blowing. That video will be replayed a couple of times!!

As the clouds rolled in, Karl snared his third for the day. Bowling through the Lions defences.

Dom and Paul were brought on. Again, the opportunities came. Lions used all their luck staying in.

It was more a battle against the weather. Temperature dropping and thunder sounding in the backdrop. Lions were heard saying “come on rain.”

Isaac and Jimmy brought back on to see if we could finish this game. Jimmy broke through with a LBW. One wicket remaining. Then the lightning and rain came.

We headed undercover while the rain passed over.

The BOM was consulted.  We held our breath and crossed our fingers.

Blue sky was seen in the distance. Brooms and pool noodles were handed out and the porch staff worked their magic. We were back on!

Wil and Isaac re-entered. We only needed 3 overs and Isaac picked up his fourth!

WPHC Blue (Rob) 5/369 defeated Berowra 107

After a masterful first day characterised by a double century by Luke, the second day seemed a walk in the park for the team.

Ridiculously reminiscent of the first day the conditions were body melting with a cool breeze introducing itself at the behest of an oncoming storm.

Initially the game went fast with batters from Berowra being taken out by both the daunting run score they had to catch up to and the intensive bowling by Lance and Ryan.

Ryan’s bowling earned him a terrific 5 wickets (5/20). One of which being an LBW and two more which were caught by Luke and Kamran respectively – the other two were bowled out by Ryan’s ever intimidating bowling.

Additionally Lance presented Luke with a catch and Malinda delivered another to Kamran. Lance got the chance to take his own catch when Direin baited the batsman into taking a wild swing straight to where Lance was waiting.

Unfortunately the game didn’t end as quickly as the batsmen kept falling. While not necessarily a ridiculous turning out of runs the new Berowra partnership was not as ready to give up their posts as the others and bought the rest of their team some time.

Then the storm came.

While seemingly not present at first, lightning halted the game and it lightly rained for pretty much half an hour somewhat beat for beat on the first day. But unlike the first day this storm passed quite quickly and the ground was barely affected.

Once the storm passed the grouping of ours returned back to the field thankful that this opportunity for victory hadn’t been taken and managed to finally take out that long-lasting pairing.

More bowling by others like Mudi and Kaushal kept the batsmen on their toes until for a victory lap Lance and Luke returned, giving away catches to their teammates and finally finishing the Berowra batting run.

A day which thankfully did not end prematurely for C4 Blue finally delivered on the winning promise of Luke’s 200 the previous match.

WPHC Red (Ravi) 9/240 dec defeated Hornsby 137

A warm applause to Reds’ dedicated Skipper Ravi who showed up just in time after his whirlwind tour of US.

After covering Dallas, Florida, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles in a span of less than a week, Ravi got home at 9.30AM, only to get ready quick and show up for game at 12.30PM. Some of our teammates got jetlag just by hearing this schedule!

Coming to the game- Reds gained the moral advantage of topping 250 and ended with a total of 252, an above par total considering the ground and conditions. With a limit of 64 overs to enforce a result, we started with the usual suspects – Praveg and Ravi. The otherwise tidy Ravi dished out a few boundary balls in the first spell, but Praveg kept it tight at the other end. Hornsby openers came out with an attacking intent and was going hard from the get go.

If it was Bumrah yesterday Vs South Africa, it was Praveg today Vs Hornsby. Praveg attacked the fourth stump line and nicked off the attacking opener back to hut. Soon he trapped the number 3 batsman plumb in front for LBW. Waman then held on to a high catch to send the other opener back and Praveg became on a Hattrick by getting the new batsman LBW for a golden duck. Ravi continued from the other end and the opening bowlers did an unstoppable spell till drinks on 18th over.

From 39/0 Hornsby soon fell to 50/5 with Ravi completing a brilliant overhead catch running backwards.

It looked like Hornsby will fold soon for a paltry score and Reds were even fancying hopes of having another crack at them for an outright win, but things changed after the break. Hornsby buckled down with their defence and switched on the survival mode, which meant Reds had to attack even further. Siby came in to snag the 6th wicket, but soon a partnership followed. Our spinners kept it tight but was negated by Hornsby to not lose any wickets.

Then came lightening followed by thunderstorms which brought a break in play. Hornsby was never complaining about this rain break and were happy to wait out their time off the field. Rain gods however listened to Reds’ prayers and game was back live after a break of about 30 mins. Some time wasting tactics by opposition followed, but Reds were patient and waiting for their turn.

Ghosts of last week resurfaced, were Reds struggled to close out the game with opposition 9 down.

Hornsby then stitched a 50 run partnership for the 7th wicket, and shoulders started to drop on the field.

Ravi was looking at every single bowling option on the field, with Jassi, Anant, Tushar – all having a go.

Ravi then called up the wicket keeper Vishnu for one final burst and that turned out to be a masterstroke.

Frustrated by some umpiring howlers all day, Reds had their tails up going into the final hour.

Vishnu broke the stubborn partnership thanks to a stunning catch by Ravi at point and soon snagged the wicket of Hornsby Skipper by clean bowling him. Vishnu soon got the 9th wicket with a yorker escaping under the bat and smashing the middle stump.

A period of frustration followed with the last wicket taking the game deep. Praveg bowled in tandem with Vishnu and the latter finally had the last laugh when Hornsby no.11 skied one to the mid-wicket and Sahil completing a neat catch.

Needless to say, Reds’ catching was top notch and fielding was fairly sharp with no easy runs conceded.

Praveg delivered the first 5-wicket haul for the team this season and Vishnu went home with his best ever bowling figures of 11/4.

It is wins like these against difficult opposition that brings the team together for greater things and the lads soaked in a hard-fought win with a pint of beers at the local club.

Onwards and upwards!

WPHC Blue (Roger) 6/234 defeated Castle Hill 8/227

Well we finally got them !! We beat Castle Hill after multiple close calls in the last 3 years including a very close Semi Final loss in the D2s last year !

Batting first we put on 234/5 in 33 overs before rain  interrupted play. Shehan Fernando 69, Vinod Sambasivam 36 (including a pivotal partnership between the two for the 4th wicket), Tej Singh Randhawa 37n.o and Mahesh  Shinde 30 retd.no were the main stays of the batting.

Castle looked within shooting distance of the target through-out the game but some crucial wickets and catches at different points including with the introduction of spin Roger Friend picking up wicket of the danger man Vineet Mani of Castle Hill was a turning point.

Our spinners across Roger Friend, Mahesh Shinde and Mahesha Kadaganchi had the better of the Castle Hill batters at the crucial stages in the chase choking the runs.

Interestingly the wickets taken were equitably split between the bowlers used at 1 each.

Final tally

WPHCCC D1 Blue 234/6 in 33 overs beat Castle Hill by 227/8 by 7 runs

WPHC Red (Diggers) 7/132 defeated Berowra 6/`183 (wet weather adjustment – 20 overs)

After last week’s narrow defeat on a rain effected day, we were desperate to get back into the winner’s circle to keep in touch with the top 4.

We turned up at Thornleigh Oval and knowing there was a chance of a thunder storm later, Captain Diggers won the toss (surprisingly) and elected to bowl.

Parin and Disco opened the bowling, but the Berowra’s opening batsman came out with intent and after 10 overs Berowra were scoring at better than a run a ball.

Captain Diggers decided on a couple of bowling changes with Buzz (2/18) and Sarthak (3/21) brought on which immediately changed the game with some much-needed wickets. Captain Diggers took some great catches off Sarthak which makes him the leading keeper in D1 Club history.

However, other than Bhargav (1/10), Berowra’s young batsman batted strongly for the rest of the innings and put on a solid score of 6/183.

During the innings changeover, we all checked the BOM as the clouds started to get dark.

Cliff and Tim came out to bat, but after 9 balls both were back in the pavilion and we were in a bit of trouble at 2/2.

Just as Cliff got out, rain and lightning started to occur and the umpires called everyone off.

The storm continued for approx.. 30 mins but due to the rules we ended up losing 1 hour of play and reducing the overs to 20 and having to chase down a revised score of 130.

Gus and Pete were at the crease and they were both starting to play their shots before Pete edged one behind.

This brought Parin to the crease and he started to build a partnership with Gus before he got caught for 19 and our total at the time was 4/48 after 7 overs.

However Parin (39) and Munish (39*) then put on a 66 run partnership which gave us a chance.

With some support from Grant and Sarthak, Munish hit the winning runs with 1 ball remaining.

A much-needed win, but a great game played in good spirits.

Next week we play the Derby.

WPHC (Ross S) 3/77 drew with St Ives-Wahroonga 6/279 dec

Turning up week 2, the opposition did not think they had enough runs with a week 1 score 5/231 and continued batting in steamy conditions.

We bowled 6 overs with  opposition putting on another 48 runs.   We did manage to take another wicket though, with their best batter smashing a waste high ball to Lachy M,  who deflected the ball onto the  stumps at the bowlers end. Batter out of their ground.   Great effort.

St Ives finally declaring 6/279…..Giving us 61 overs to chase.

Ross and Sandeep opening,  both off the mark before Sandeep was well caught at 1st slip.   With clouds building in the west, enter Ramil his first bat since his century in round 3.   Ross and Ramil playing sensibly pushing the single where possible and Ramil flaying the loose ball for a couple of 6’s and 4’s.

Opening  bowlers seen off,  before a loss in concentration from Ross in the first  change over, caught at point for 14,  2/41 after 14 overs.

Some heavy hitting from Gihan and Ramil accelerated the scoring.   With thunder rumbling  in the distance and storm clouds building it was only a matter of time  before play would stop.

Unfortunately, Gihan holed out to the only fielder in deep mid wicket for 20.  Jaques faces 2 balls, before lightening forces us off 5 minutes before tea.    3/77 after 24 overs. An early tea break.

For the next 20 minutes lightening and thunder all around us, before the storm hits.

Just after 4.10 with us not being able to take the field before 4.30,  the St  Ives skipper asks if we are ok to finish as a result is unlikely.   Game drawn, for the second game in a row.

Still keeps us in the top 4,  just  1 point in front of our today’s opposition.   Ramil 38no.
