Class acts

While our Club is still working through the sad loss of Michael Banner last week it was great to see the thoughtful and respectful response from many Clubs and players outside our Club.

In the words of our Seniors Director (James) regarding the support from our long-term on-field A1 rivals, sent to the Association Executive Officer:

“I just wanted to say thanks to the Berowra Captains, and teams, for their very thoughtful and respectful behaviour this weekend. They asked to join our pre-game huddles for a minute’s silence in A2, and at least one of the one day games, to recognise the passing of one our long-term players, Michael Banner.

It was a tough weekend for our A2 team in particular, as Michael had played with that group for the last few years. Zach’s gestures of support very much hit the mark there – thank you.”

Add to this the support of other Clubs: ARL & Castle Hill RSL (B1), Hornsby (C2); Glenorie (B2); Kissing Point (C4); plus Meta posts from ARL and Glenorie it shows everything good about our great game.

Lachie Shaw – Friends in high places

It was great to see Lachie Shaw, Northern Districts w/k and top order bat selected as NSW ODI Captain at just 24 years of age. While Lachie has played just 8 First Class games he has been selected to one of the most prestigious leadership positions in Australian cricket.

He is also an established player with the Sydney Sixers.

It was great to see Lachie at Mark Taylor Oval last year and take a bit of time to acknowledge West Penno.

7 wicket takers in an innings

How about the current C4 game against Kissing Point. In a tight competition we are coming 4th and are playing 3rd placed Point, so pretty reasonable competition.

Overall, we had a good day in the field, bowling Point out for 200 at a fast Auluba Oval.

What is amazing is that 7 bowlers took wickets. While not unheard off, this doesn’t happen often. Congratulations to our bowlers:

  • Ravi Gunna – 2/19 (12 overs)
  • Anant Wankhade – 2/19
  • Sandeep Phukan – 2/22
  • Amit Ninan – 1/14
  • Sayantan Sen – 1/20
  • Siby Joseph – 1/21
  • Muthindra Gunasekara – 1/32

Sports Club connection

Our close association with the Sports Club goes back almost 60 years. When the Club wasn’t much more that a one-room building with a tin roof. Throughout this time they have been great supporters of ours and the Club has been our ‘home away from home’. Especially after games.

It was great to see the Sports Club turn on a BBQ for our Blast participants and their families after the opening day. They are also running a BBQ each month for the Team – how good.
